A few years ago, Carbon Studio co-founder Aleksander Caban spotted a major problem regarding the design of modern games. With new technology, he decided to develop Auctoria using generative AI to help automate the process of video game model creation.
Carbon Studio Co-Founders and Other Professionals Partnered to Create Auctoria
According to Tech Crunch, Carbon Studio is a Polish VR game developer, and its co-founder, Caban, shared how he had previously had to manually create certain basic elements of video game environments like rocks, hills, and paths.
The problem was that the process was not only time-consuming but also very laborious. Because of this, Caban decided to focus on developing tech for this process to be automated.
To achieve this, he partnered with Michal Bugała, Joanna Zając, and two other co-founders of Carbon Studio, namely Karolina Koszuta and Błażej Szaflik, and together, they launched Auctoria.
Auctoria Generates 3D Video Game Assets With the Help of Generative AI
Auctoria is reportedly a platform that uses AI to generate 3D video game assets straight from scratch. The business is reportedly based in Gliwice, Poland, and the company recently participated in TechCrunch Disrupt 2023's Startup Battlefield 200.
Zając told TechCrunch that they created Auctoria out of their passion for limitless creativity and to support game development professionals in their work or anyone who simply wants to use it.
Zając noted that there are not many advanced tools for professionals, as most focus on hobbyists and amateurs, and this was something they wanted to change.
Auctoria Utilizes Generative AI to Create a Wide Range of In-Game Models
Auctoria reportedly uses generative AI to create a wide range of specific model types that can be utilized in video games. One of the platform's features includes creating whole 3D game levels, including pathways that players can explore.
Another feature would be converting uploaded images and textures of different elements like walls, floors, and columns and translating them into their 3D equivalent counterparts. The platform was reportedly also easier to use, with users being able to enter text prompts for generating assets like they would in Midjourney or Dall-E 2.
Sketch Can Also be Used to Create In-Game Models
Users can also provide a sketch, and the platform will turn it into a digital model that can be used. It was also reported that the AI algorithms used on the platform were all developed and trained in-house.
"Auctoria is based 100% on our content, so we're not dependent on any other provider... It's an independent tool - Auctoria doesn't rely on any external engine or use open source solutions," Zając said in an email sent to TechCrunch.
Now, Auctoria is not the only AI tool generating game assets in this growing market. According to The Verge, Meta has also tried experimenting with something like this. As pointed out by Proficient Market Insights via Yahoo, the 3D models market by 2028 could be worth $3.57 billion.
