Employees are now raising their concerns against TikTok's MyRTO app, and this is a tracker for the workers' attendance on the required days that they report to the office. Much like the Big Tech that requires workers to return to the office, ByteDance has launched this app to monitor their attendance as the pandemic's work-from-home setup is slowly diminishing.
Many companies are now requiring employees to report physically to their offices to do work, with some revolting against this as work can be done from home and others live far away.
TikTok MyRTO App Monitors Employee Attendance at RTO
The New York Times received several testimonies from TikTok employees regarding the new app called "MyRTO" which tracks their attendance, as the company has recently mandated a return-to-office setup. The employees claimed that ByteDance circulated notices that explained what the app is for, and it monitors the badge swipes when they are onsite.
During the pandemic, TikTok adopted the work-from-home or remote setup among its employees, but like other Big Tech companies, they are slowly rolling out a hybrid work schedule.
According to the Times, MyRTO is built into TikTok's internal software, and this attendance tracker would compile all the information from their badge swipes, with its data available for the workers and HR staff.

Return to Office Tracker from ByteDance Faces Heat
Gizmodo claimed that TikTok's return to office and MyRTO tracker app faced massive heat among its employees, especially as ByteDance was claimed to allegedly question employees about their absence or refusal to report onsite.
It was also reported that there would be disciplinary action for those who are deliberately disregarding their employment setup. Some TikTok employees are asked to report for three days a week, and some are required for as much as five days weekly.
Big Tech's Return to Office Mandates
The pandemic has taught the world many things, and one of them is how work can be done remotely and the traditional office can be abolished in today's age and technology. However, that is not yet stopping Big Tech from mandating a return to office setups, with Meta among the renowned ones to ask employees to report in a hybrid setup for as much as thrice a week.
Amazon also joined this mandate, as it asked employees to report to their respective offices three times a week, and it was a significant debate between the company and its workers. Some employees have stood their ground against this mandate, with Amazon already warning about the repercussions of their resistance to the mandate.
Google and Apple are also bringing this setup to its workforce.
Now, ByteDance and TikTok are asking employees to return to their offices in a hybrid work setup, and this comes with a dedicated app that is looking to track their attendance. MyRTO is an employee badge tracker that determines their swipes if report to the workplace, and ByteDance takes it up a notch by asking them whenever they refuse to do so, now facing complaints.
