Tech Times Weekly Wrap: iPhone 15 Pro, No More Bidirectional EV Charging in Cali, NASA-Inspired Airless Tires

The world of tech was taken over by Apple last week.

The world of tech was taken over by a storm of Apple's massive Wonderlust event, with the company dropping significant developments to its devices, including the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro's USB-C. However, last week also saw the defeat of the Bidirectional EV Charging requirement in California in the State Assembly, alongside the NASA-inspired Airless tires that are now available.

Technology and innovation continue with the many developments seen last week, but there are still massive efforts that do not fly in the industry.

Apple revealed the iPhone 15 series to the world early last week, and it saw massive praise and a warm welcome for what the devices have to bring, with its most important feature available now being the USB-C.

There are plenty of reasons why users should upgrade to the new smartphone now, and it includes the famed 3nm processor known as the A17 Pro for the iPhone 15 Pro and the A16 Bionic chip for the iPhone 15.

However, this is not the only feature of USB-C, as the iPhone 15 Pro delivers USB-3 technology that allows the smartphone to directly transfer data from its internal storage to the likes of SSDs, Macs, Flash Drives, and more. It also offers bidirectional charging to power other devices.

The iPhone 15 Pro features a titanium body for a more robust device, but keeping a lightweight form factor. The series also introduces the first iteration of the Action Button, replacing the Mute switch.

Senator Nancy Skinner sponsored the SB-233, also known as the California Bill that centers on a bidirectional charging requirement for EVs, but sadly, it did not fly in the state assembly.

While it saw massive success among the members of the Senate as it was drafted, it faced a roadblock with the state assembly which did not approve it. Senator Skinner and her office have confirmed that this particular Senate Bill is no longer continuing its efforts.

However, the idea is not yet scrapped, as Skinner and her office would look for more ways to move forward with this California EV requirement in the future.

Airless tires have been in development in the previous years, and it already made waves in the tech industry with NASA pioneering this design, with many following. Now, some companies looked to develop this, with an Ohio-based company called the Smart Tire Company has recently made it available for the world to use.

This is called the METL, and it is the memory airless bicycle tire, that was originally conceived by NASA for extraterrestrial applications, especially with the rocky surface of the Red Planet, Mars.

The company initially launched the program via Kickstarter, and since then, the team has developed it with Nitinol, a component that gives it better shock absorption, elasticity, and durability for improved ride comfort here on Earth.
