Kick streamer 'GiftedPrime' has gone where few dared to venture, breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest live stream without sleep, clocking an astounding 164 hours live without a wink of rest.
A New Record Unveiled
Dexerto reports that the record, previously held at 162 hours by 'ThisFudginGuy,' was set two years ago but has now been obliterated.
GiftedPrime's record-breaking achievement, which took place on September 1, saw him staying awake for close to seven consecutive days.
Even more intriguing is that ThisFudginGuy was present in the stream to offer his congratulations as the new record was established.
Not an Easy Feat
Yet, it was not all smooth sailing for GiftedPrime. He revealed that he had been attempting to break this record for two years, with previous attempts falling short.
Determination and sheer willpower brought him to this triumphant moment. On X, he announced his feat: "Just broke @ThisFudginGuy Twitch no sleep record! 161 hours 37 minutes live streaming continuously without sleeping!"
In a playful tone, GiftedPrime added, "Yes, that's just shy of 7 days without sleep! Can we hit 200 hours?"
Sleep Deprivation's Toll on Health
As we applaud GiftedPrime's astounding achievement, it is essential to consider the effects of such prolonged sleep deprivation on an individual's health.
Studies have shown that chronic sleep deprivation can lead to severe health problems. These include mood swings, mental health changes, diabetes, kidney disease, stroke, and heart disease.
It also increases the risk of obesity and metabolic syndrome, painting a grim picture of the potential consequences.
Additionally, reduced immunity is a significant concern. When deprived of sleep, the immune system functions less efficiently, making the body more susceptible to infections. Over time, a lack of sleep can weaken the ability to fend off illnesses.
The Extremes of Sleep Deprivation
So, what happens to a person when they go without sleep for extended periods?
After 48 hours without sleep, research suggests that hallucinations become likely, often accompanied by blurry or double vision.
These hallucinations can evolve into complex distortions of reality, blurring the line between what's real and what's not. Depersonalization may also set in, making individuals feel detached from their bodies and emotions.
But the most concerning part emerges as we near 72 hours without sleep. A person may start to slur their speech, limp, and experience frequent and complex hallucinations. Mental health takes a severe hit, with symptoms of psychosis, complex delusions, and even violent behavior.
For the truly audacious, who venture into 120 hours of no sleep, the consequences are dire. Mental health deteriorates rapidly, marked by severe detachment from reality, complex delusions, and violent tendencies.
