The beloved cyberpunk adventure game featuring a cat, Stray, is soon getting a movie adaptation that would expand more of its story, taking on the dystopian world with a robot. BlueTwelve Studios and Annapurna Interactive's iconic game from 2022 is now taking the larger screens to tell the story of the orange cat, looking to find its way back to the surface.
Stray's movie adaptation would be an animation, and this may help capture the adventure game's core in this movie, but the question remains of where it would be available.
Stray is Getting a Movie Adaptation with Annapurna
Annapurna revealed that it is now actively developing a movie adaptation of its famed adventure game, Stray, soon to bring a feature film about a cat's adventure in a cyberpunk world.
Entertainment Weekly relayed word from Annapurna Animation's head, Robert Baird, who recently confirmed the adaptation that is coming soon for all. Baird calls this movie a "hopepunk," saying that this will be the greatest of its genre to be made.
"Hopepunk," as Bard explains, is a narrative concept that centers on a cyberpunk or dystopian world rid of tyranny, but its main themes display optimism to overcome the reign of terror.
"Ginger" (dubbed by gamers as the cat did not have an actual name from the game) will be the star of the film, but another familiar face will also join the film as one of its stars, the robot companion known as B-12.
Where is Stray's Movie Heading?
While there are no confirmations yet of where the animated movie adaptation will be available, whether in theaters or streaming platforms, it is important to note that Annapurna previously had a project with Netflix called "Nimona."
According to Engadget, Nimona was a surprise hit on Netflix, with Annapurna following up its success in its future adaptation of Stray.
Stray and Its Impact on Gaming
When Stray was introduced by its developers and publishers in 2022, it gained critical acclaim and cult popularity because of the unique offers of the game. Essentially, it is a cat simulator, but its story gives it more depth and enhances more of the experience, putting the brave cat on a quest for survival, while encountering friendly and menacing bots along the way.
However, the initially PlayStation-exclusive game did not only attract human gamers to go head over heels for the revolutionary title from BlueTwelve and Annapurna. According to user reports, cats and other animals like dogs are also amazed by the adventure title, with the humans showing how it hooked their furry friends to be fixated while the "hoomans" played the game.
The massive success of Stray in the world has made the virtual animal games a significant following and fame, with other titles also making their mark. Still, Stray remains one of the most popular and renowned games in this age, and with it, its publisher is given the chance to work on its animated movie adaptation, coming soon for all to enjoy.
