In the growing world of artificial intelligence, Zoom has its own generative AI features which are subject to rebranding. These AI features include its assistant which was previously known as Zoom IQ.

Zoom Rebrands Its AI Tool After Controversy of How It Changed Its Terms of Service

According to the story by Tech Crunch, the reason why Zoom might have wanted to rebrand is because of recent controversy. There was news that came out highlighting the changes made to the terms of service of the video conferencing platform.

The new terms of service implied that the company had the rights to the videos of customers. It was stated that Zoom would have the rights to use said videos in order to train its artificial intelligence tools and models.

Zoom Clarified It Doesn't Use 'Communications-Like' Customer Data for AI Training

As highlighted in an article by CBS News, the changes resulted in users worrying, and in response, the company decided to update its policy. Despite the changes and clarification, privacy experts said that the changes don't prevent Zoom from using customer data for AI training.

The company also highlighted how "communications-like" customer data won't be used for AI training apps for Zoom or outside partners. Recently, a nonprofit that focuses on open source projects gave their thoughts about the matter.

Software Freedom Conservation Nonprofit Urges Developers to Leave the Company Due to Changes

This nonprofit, Software Freedom Conservancy, which provides support and legal services, recently called on developers and asked them to ditch Zoom. They cited that developers should leave the company due to its changes when it came to its terms of service.

Zoom shared its press release with TechCrunch revealing how the company's goal was to be able to invest in what was described as "AI-driven innovation" with the purpose of enhancing and improving user experience and productivity.

The Company Tried to Highlight How It Priorizes Trust and Highlights Which Data It Doesn't Use

They noted that the company was doing this while also prioritizing trust as they clarified that they don't use "customer audio, video, chat, screen-sharing, attachments" or other content which they said were "communications-like" which they explained included poll results, reactions, or Zoom's whiteboard.

So far, Zoom decided to rebrand its Zoom IQ which was powered by the company's in-house generative AI as well as other models that reportedly come from other vendors including OpenAI, Meta, and even Anthropic.

Zoom IQ was Rebranded to AI Companion which Users can Utilize for Many Features

The Zoom IQ, which is called AI Companion, as described in an article by CNet, will be something that users can utilize in order to get project status, transcribe meetings, and other features and abilities. Users would also be able to ask AI Companion certain questions while having a meeting for them to be updated when it comes to catching up on important files or other abilities.

AI Companion can also be asked to create or draft responses and even summarize meetings. It can also identify action items as well as highlight the next steps users should take.
