SpaceX Stops YouTube Livestreaming in Favor of X—Exclusive on the Social Media?

The X Corp. wins again.

The social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is now the media of choice for all SpaceX-related live streaming as the private space company stopped its YouTube live streams in favor of the Elon Musk-led site. However, there was one exception to this change, as the SpaceX Crew-6 which is also part of NASA's Commercial Crew, was live streamed via YouTube under the space agency's channel.

Its massive shift to X highlights the focus of Musk on his social media platform, with his other companies also joining suit in this shift online.

SpaceX Stops Livestreaming on YouTube in Favor of X

The recent livestream of SpaceX took place in X, and this is what would be observed in the future as the company already stopped its live content posting on Google's YouTube. While there are no rivalries yet between X and YouTube, the Elon Musk-led social media is building itself as the platform destination for all content, also referred to as "the Everything App."

When Crew-6 undertook its return mission, it was expected that SpaceX would bring its live content to YouTube, like what it did before for previous flights. However, this was absent from the Google-owned online content platform as it was directed over at X.

While there remains no confirmation of exclusivity to stream SpaceX's content on X only, the recent no-show of its Livestream on YouTube marks a new age for the Elon Musk-led companies.

NASA's YouTube Livestream Continues

Despite SpaceX opting out of YouTube to favor X, NASA remains to have its YouTube channel where the last mission, Crew-6's return, was live streamed over Google's platform.

This would be something to expect from NASA in the future, especially for missions under the Commercial Crew program, despite SpaceX being a part of it.

SpaceX and NASA's Launches

NASA and SpaceX have been longtime partners in the space race, as the Elon Musk-owned company stands as one of the most iconic and notable companies in the industry, with many projects underway for both companies. The most notable is the Commercial Crew, with SpaceX launching the astronauts towards the International Space Station, with the recent internationally diverse Crew-7 already arriving at their destination.

The massive focus of NASA to delegate private space companies to launching missions under a contract has been a significant shift for the agency which previously undertook everything there is to a space mission. In a new initiative called Collaborations for Commercial Space Capabilities-2 (CCSC-2), NASA yet again tapped into the likes of SpaceX, Blue Origin, Northrop Grumman, and more for its missions.

While SpaceX is a massive part of NASA's missions, it is still a private company and can do so as it pleases, like choosing which streaming platform would be their choice to broadcast their missions. And this is exactly what SpaceX did on their last mission launch, with the company favoring X over other platforms, showing its massive shift towards what Musk is building for social media.
