This Cutting-Edge Pen Produces 16 Million Colors as It Copies From Its Surroundings

Who needs crayons when you could have a pen that can produce 16 million colors?

The Colorpik Pen is redefining artistic possibilities by offering an astonishing palette of 16 million colors, all achieved through the ingenious method of copying colors from the user's surroundings.

Currently making waves on Kickstarter, New Atlas reported that the Colorpik Pen incorporates an RGB color sensor and four refillable ink cartridges, each representing a base color.

The user's process is simple: they hold the sensor against the desired color source, which could be anything from a flower petal to a car's surface, and then activate the scan using a button.

How the Colorpik Pen Does Its Magic

The pen's internal mechanism works magic by mixing the different ink colors, creating an exact replica of the selected shade. What sets the Colorpik Pen apart is its versatility.

It arrives with six interchangeable nibs, catering to different artistic styles: ballpoint, marker, brush, fountain, round, and "needle." Moreover, the pen can connect to tablets through Bluetooth via a dedicated app or computers through USB, enabling users to seamlessly integrate scanned colors into their digital projects.

The pen even doubles as a stylus, featuring a capacitive cap. However, the Colorpik Pen's capabilities extend beyond color reproduction. The accompanying app allows users to fine-tune scanned colors, adjusting the hue, shade, and tint until the desired result is achieved.

For example, the Colorpik Pen can scan a leaf, so it can draw, or write in leafy green. The pen can also scan colors directly from an included flip chart displaying 199 distinct shades.

In terms of battery life, the Colorpik Pen doesn't disappoint. Its 280-mAh lithium battery can power approximately 15 hours of use on a single charge. The refillable ink cartridges also boast impressive capacity, allowing for around 15 miles (24 km) of drawing.

Should the Colorpik Pen make its way into production, backers pledging $149 will secure a comprehensive package, complete with the pen, four nib options, a color chart, and three sets of ink cartridges. The projected retail price is $298, making this an enticing opportunity for creative enthusiasts.

Color-Copying Pen

However, it's essential to note that the idea of a color-copying pen is not entirely novel. While the Colorpik Pen stands out for its advanced capabilities, similar concepts have been explored previously, including the Scribble Ink pen and the Artera pen, which are both still in the process of reaching full production, according to New Atlas.

Originating from New York, Colorpik Inc. is the visionary force driving this pen. The company's mission revolves around integrating AI sensory technology to elevate the painting and coloring experience, catering to users of all ages.
