Elon Musk Booed by Crowd at Valorant World Championship

The crowd chanted: "Bring Twitter back!"

Tech mogul Elon Musk became the target of jeers from the gaming community at The Valorant World Championship Final in Los Angeles. The well-known businessman and CEO of tech giants Tesla and SpaceX faced boos from the gaming community at the event that happened on Saturday.

Elon Musk, who was visiting the tournament with one of his kids, was momentarily caught on camera. According to Insider, the audience's response was immediate and robust, erupting in jeers and filling the stadium.

The event's commentators were perplexed by the sudden change of circumstances and inquired about the cause of the adverse crowd reaction. "Where is that from? That can't be from in here, surely," a commentator asked, according to Gizmodo.

The crowd's booing continued even when the camera returned to gaming footage following Elon Musk's brief four-second presence on screen. The mocking of the audience soon changed into a chorus of "Bring back Twitter," voicing out their views on the recent social media platform's name change.

Boos Echoed on Social Media

Elon Musk was seen at the KIA Forum in Los Angeles with one of his kids at his side and snapping photographs outside the venue. The identity of the child who attended the occasion remains unclear as of present reporting.

The Elon Musk booing incident received much attention online, especially on Twitch, where approximately four million people watched the event's live feed. However, Musk's very own platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), saw an even more significant increase in interest. Jake Lucky, an e-sports reporter, posted a video of the event, which soon gained popularity. The controversy generated a flood of both Musk's detractors' condemnation and his group of "blue-checked" fans' steadfast defense.

Public Disapproval of Elon Musk's Twitter Decisions

Due to Indonesia's anti-porn and anti-gambling legislation, Musk's decision to rename Twitter as X in July sparked controversy and briefly resulted in the site being banned there. Analysts and brand agencies reportedly opposed the move, predicting that the loss of the Twitter brand might cause a drop in the company's worth of between $4 billion and $20 billion. Even then, just one of the top 25 US marketers is said to have started using the new X sign.

This is not the first time that Elon Musk has been booed at an event. The tech businessman got jeers from the crowd during a Dave Chappelle comedy event in December, according to a CNBC report. The audience's reaction came from worries about possible layoffs and inadequate content regulation in response to Musk's acquisition of Twitter.

After Elon Musk took control in October 2022, the social networking site laid off 50% of its 7,500 employees. The BBC said that Twitter laid off 200 more workers in February.
