Meta has recently released a new addition to its AI arsenal, Code Llama.

What Is Code Llama?

Releasing the Llama

Meta's journey into AI continues with the launch of Code Llama, a large language model (LLM) finely tuned for coding tasks.

A Meta news release tells us that the model boasts an impressive language repertoire, supporting an array of programming languages including Python, C++, Java, PHP, Typescript, C#, and Bash. Three Models

Meta's commitment to cater to diverse user needs is evident in the three variations of Code Llama, each boasting different parameters - 7 billion, 13 billion, and a whopping 34 billion. 

These models, trained on a substantial 500 billion tokens of code, have different performance profiles to accommodate various use cases. The smallest model, with 7 billion parameters, can run on a single GPU, ensuring accessibility for developers with less powerful hardware. 

On the other end of the spectrum, the 34-billion-parameter model takes the crown for being the best-performing code generator Meta has released thus far.

Python and Instruct Variations

Meta's innovation extends beyond the core models. The specialized Code Llama - Python model, fine-tuned on a staggering 100 billion tokens of Python code, stands out. 

With Python's ubiquitous presence in the coding world, this variant aims to provide programmers with a tailored experience.

Furthermore, the Code Llama - Instruct variation offers a unique approach by incorporating instruction fine-tuning. This variation, fed with natural language instructions and their expected code outputs, brings an extra layer of precision to code generation.
