Meta is launching Threads on the web this week as the company plans to expand its social media platform to the desktop users.
Mark Zuckerberg Confirms Launch of Web Threads App
Last month, Meta's rival Twitter which is now known as X has seen a huge increase in the number of users. However, this remains questionable since Tech Times recently reported that most of them were fake or inactive accounts.
Still, the surge of X's user base could be the result of its ease of use and functionality which is something that Threads lacks.
To keep up with X, Zuckerberg has announced that the web version of Threads will be available this week. New features are expected to arrive to retain the interest of the customers.
Before Threads On the Web, There Was Mobile Threads App
Before the desktop users flock in the next few days on Threads, this Meta app was only available on its mobile version. Only the iOS and Android users can access the platform, per BBC.
With Meta seeing itself at a big disadvantage with X, it suddenly shifted narrative to improve its features. It even improved its timetable to suppress its limitations.
Initially, what's available on the site is the countdown timer and the app link. However, this later transformed into a read-only feed.
Meta's pursuit to change Threads to a better platform is followed by the launch of a Twitter-like feature that is similar to "retweets."
A previous report says that the new "Reposts" tab will be usable for users who want to view the profile of other people on Threads.
The other update linked to this feature is the reverse-chronological "Following" feed.
Meta saw it coming that Threads will reach 100 million users in just a few days. While the fun lasted for some time, the impressive number declined within a few weeks because of the app's limited functionalities.
Threads on the Web is the Most Requested Feature
According to the latest report by 9to5Mac, many users have been requesting Threads to have a dedicated web version. Finally, Meta listened to its customers to add it the soonest time possible.
Zuckerberg already confirmed that we could soon access Threads for the web in the next few days. The business tycoon uploaded a photo of his younger self seen building the app's web version.
The first step to penetrate the web users is to release this kind of update. That's something that Zuckerberg wants to keep in mind if he wants to compete with Elon Musk's X.
While the Threads' web version is indeed coming at this stage, it still does not have a search function. If this will be added also, then it's now ready to take on X.
