The internet was driven crazy when the TSMC US chip plant issue erupted between the American and Taiwanese workers.
The two parties continue to exchange insults with each other. The latest report sees that there's a Taiwan-based YouTube channel that accuses US employees of being extremely lazy.
US Labor Union Wants Taiwanese Workers 'Out' of the Country
In a report by Taiwan News on Thursday, Aug. 10, the US labor union has been calling out Taiwanese workers to get out of TSMC's facility in Arizona.
According to the article, the Arizona Pipes Trades 469 Union initiated a petition that will ban foreign workers from working in TSMC.
The announcement came after the chip maker confirmed that more Taiwanese workers are coming to the US to mitigate the delays with the project.
To make sure that politicians will listen to their call, the union sent the petition to the US legislators. It was stated there that over 500 requested dEB-2 visas from Taiwanese workers should be blocked.
"TSMC has shown a lack of respect for American workers, placing profit above worker safety and deliberately misrepresenting the quality, skills, and experience of Arizona's workforce," the petition reads.
With that being said, the US job creation was questioned. Many Americans are wondering why there's a need to bring in Taiwanese workers in the first place.
Taiwanese YouTube Channel Alleges American Workers of Laziness
In another story by 9to5Mac, the ongoing battle continues to shock the tech industry as more Taiwanese citizens are lambasting the American workers.
The popular YouTube channel in Taiwan which goes by the name 關鍵時刻 has 2.96 million subscribers at the moment. According to the "Can a photo ruin TSMC?" video posted on July 24, American employees are very lazy to the point that they can't build a plant, particularly TSMC.
Additionally, the clip which almost runs for 30 minutes, suggests that some US-based workers are only scrolling through their phones on duty. The YouTube channel also accused some of them of just sitting down on the ground.
The origin of the photos featured in the video has not been mentioned. At the very least, no one could tell if the photo is fake or not or if the US worker is just taking a break or slacking off from work.
The video caught the attention of IBEW 650, a US-based group of electrical workers. According to the group, they obtained the screenshots from the clip on a Taiwanese forum.
IBEW 650 said that they saw a lot of anti-American insults thrown at the US workers. According to one group member, he left the project immediately because TSMC prioritized profit over safety. He cited that the current conditions in the plant are "chaotic" and "unsafe."
Furthermore, previous reports pointed out that serious accidents have been happening inside. There was a time when a gas leak was disguised by a fake active shooter drill just to cover the real issue.
Meanwhile, Nikkei Asia reported that TSMC will manufacture 2-nm semiconductors in Hsinchu County in northern Taiwan. The operation will kick off in 2025.
