Stacked Rear Camera Sensor Design Coming for iPhone 16 Pro Lineup, Says Kuo

The Apple analyst expects to see the stacked camera sensor design for upcoming iPhone 16 lineup by 2024.

Prominent Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo touts that the iPhone 16 Pro models will use a stacked sensor design for their rear cameras.

The lineup is expected to arrive by 2024, but as early as now, the tech insider appears to be on the lookout for this major feature for the four models.

Although the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro variants have not yet arrived, several reports about their predecessor have hinted at a huge upgrade on their cameras.

According to Macrumors, Kuo has speculated that due to the dilemmas in the production yield, only the standard iPhone 15 models will adopt the stacked camera sensor, leaving the Pro models in the dark.

As Kuo said in a Medium blog, the lost feature will come to the Pro lineup of the iPhone 16 which is slated to debut by next year.

With this, the next-gen smartphones will boast improved capabilities in video and image-capturing.

This mid-year, the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus will come with minor camera upgrades, particularly with the release of the 48MP camera designed for low-light photography.

The upgrade will highlight the stacked CMOS sensor which will allow more light to penetrate the lens. For those who love taking pictures in dim settings, then this will definitely be the upgrade that you're looking for.

What With iPhone 16's High-End Camera Revamp

Kuo believes that Apple ditched the stacked camera sensor for other iPhone 15 models because of the production yield issues.

Ahead of time, the Cupertino giant has already secured the orders from Sony when it comes to CIS capacity. It is projected to be tight through 2024.

Previous rumors claimed that iPhone 16 Pro Max will be getting an upgraded telephoto and ultra-wide lens, not to mention its 48MP sensor.

A year from now, we will see if Kuo's guesses are right regarding the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. There might be some adjustments for the models' internals, but we'll see if Apple will add more upgrades to the lenses.

Other than that, the iPhone maker is anticipated to roll out the new A17 Bionic processor that is based on TSMC's 3nm process. This will guarantee that the new smartphones will have faster performance and tested efficiency ahead of other variants.

Apple could have seen from afar that the upcoming lineup needs a better battery life on top of having a powerful GPU and CPU.

In other news, Apple saw a "modest" increase in its quarterly revenue amid its weak iPhone sales. According to Tech Times, it was an all-time high record for the third fiscal year accounting for $19.9 billion.

Apple noticed that its iPhone sales in China surprisingly skyrocketed in 2023 compared to 2022. Aside from that, the company posted an impressive performance in Europe, but its revenue across the Asia Pacific, Japan, and the Americas has dropped.
