Hungarian Airline Wizz Air Orders 75 More Airbus A321neos in a Deal Worth $10 Billion

Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air has placed an order for an additional 75 Airbus A321neo aircraft, making the deal worth a staggering $10 billion at list prices, according to the announcement from Airbus.

Wizz Air, known for being the fastest-growing ultra-low-cost airline in Europe, has now solidified its position as the largest operator of the A321neo Family in both Europe and the Middle East, as per the announcement.

This latest order takes the airline's total A321neo Family aircraft order to an impressive 434 and its overall A320 Family order to a remarkable 565 aircraft.

Wizz Air Cutting-Edge Neo Technology

József Váradi, the CEO of Wizz Air, expressed his satisfaction with the deal, highlighting the airline's commitment to utilizing cutting-edge new technology.

He emphasized the A321neo's economic efficiency and low carbon footprint, aligning with Wizz Air's goal of offering customers affordable and sustainable travel options.

Váradi acknowledged the long-standing partnership with Airbus and their unwavering commitment to the technology, evident in their extensive order book, which consists of over 350 neo aircraft. At present, Wizz Air operates an all-Airbus fleet, boasting more than 180 A320 Family aircraft in operation.

Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International, praised Wizz Air for its steady growth in the European aviation market and acknowledged the airline's significant contribution to Airbus as a reliable partner.

Scherer sees Wizz Air's investment in the A321neo as a solid foundation for the airline's continued expansion strategy.

All About Airbus A321neo

The A321neo, the largest member of the A320neo family, is known for its range and performance. Equipped with new-generation engines and Sharklets, it offers a 50 percent reduction in noise and more than 20 percent fuel savings and CO2 reduction compared to previous-generation single-aisle aircraft.

Additionally, it boasts the widest single-aisle cabin in the sky, ensuring maximum passenger comfort. According to Airbus, the popularity of the A321neo is evident from the extensive global orders, with nearly 5,200 units ordered by various customers.

In related news, both Airbus and Boeing are witnessing a surge in commercial aircraft production to meet the increasing demand from airlines.

Airbus recently reported a net profit of 1.06 billion euros ($1.17 billion) in the second quarter, while Boeing faced a $149 million loss due to delays and cost issues in its defense and space program.

Despite the setback, Boeing saw an 18 percent rise in revenue to $19.8 billion during the quarter, and Airbus experienced a 24 percent surge to $17.6 billion. Both companies are actively working on ramping up client deliveries to cater to the growing market demand.
