X Blue is now the revamped Twitter Blue that is part of the platform's rebranding, and alongside this, there are changes to the verification checkmarks where users are now allowed to hide it. However, it is not a clear-cut way to hide one's verification on social media, as there are still parts of it where others will know if one is a part of it.
There are plenty of reasons to be ashamed of having the blue checkmark, but some may claim that it is because they are ashamed of having it flaunted on their profiles.
X Blue Offers a Way to Hide Verification Checkmarks on One's Profile
The updated help center of X Blue, alongside its revamp into X, is now adding a new feature where users can hide their verification checkmarks from their profiles should they wish to do so.
"As a subscriber, you can choose to hide your checkmark on your account. The checkmark will be hidden on your profile and posts."
However, as X Blue explained, it will not stay hidden in all parts of the platform and reveal that a user is subscribed to the service.
"The checkmark may still appear in some places and some features could still reveal you have an active subscription. Some features may not be available while your checkmark is hidden. We will continue to evolve this feature to make it better for you."
X did not reiterate which features will be unavailable once users hide their checkmark.
Here's How to Hide Your Blue Checkmark Verification
It is straightforward to hide one's X Blue checkmark verification on their profiles and posts, so as not to tell the world about one's status online.
Head over to your Profile under the user's account settings, and look for "Profile Customization." Here, they will find the option to hide or make it visible on their accounts.
Twitter's Verification in the Musk Era
Back in late 2022, Twitter's massive change came alongside the arrival of Elon Musk as its owner and CEO, with verification being at the top of his list to bring to the public. However, from the free verification applications, it became a paid subscription where users are required to settle a monthly fee, which differs in the channel where they applied.
It led to different events taking place on Twitter regarding the verification, and one of the most iconic changes here is the removal of the legacy checkmarks in April for those verified before the subscriptions.
That being said, there was also a massive controversy about labeling, with different news organizations seeing the removal of their checkmarks for either refusing to pay $1,000 monthly for organizations or refusing to take Twitter's labels as they were inaccurate.
Verifications came a long way from what it was when Twitter first introduced it, but it still boils down to a way to ensure a person's identity and who they claim to be online. Now, the sign of supremacy and status is something that subscribed users do not want to be seen on their profiles, with X Blue allowing them to hide it from their profiles.
