The use of AI in different industries has progressed after the introduction of OpenAI's ChatGPT. However, some companies focus on using AI as a tech disruptor. Even certain dating companies are starting to adopt the use of artificial intelligence as a way to help improve a person's dating potential.
Companies Are Trying Out AI to Provide Generated Answers for Icebreakers
According to Financial Times, artificial intelligence has entered the dating industry as companies like Rizz and YourMove AI are applying AI tech to assist users. The assistance comes in the form of writing witty opening lines as well as improving their profiles.
It aims to fix one of the problems most people experience when it comes to online dating: struggling to say hello and meet with strangers. Artificial chat would provide a less sinister way to approach people instead of generating answers based on users' data, like the Pheramor app once did.
AI-assisted conversations suggest that dating apps could reportedly fill computers someday. A certain start-up offers the chance for users to see how this type of approach plays out.
Divided Thoughts on the Use of AI for Dating Apps
Teaser's AI dating app reportedly asks users specific questions about themselves and their personalities for them to be able to generate an AI-based approach to mimic them. Regarding the matching, individuals can sit back and watch as chatbots try to woo each other over by conversing in the individual's style.
According to Wired, a viral TikTok of a self-described "Tinder veteran" used ChatGPT to write pickup lines for his matches. He directed the chatbot to write a "love poem about climbing a tree that is a metaphor for a 6-foot girl." He noted that this accomplished his goal.
Some commenters praised his cleverness, but others deemed it a warning sign for the dishonesty to come. A claim was also made regarding how AI would provide more fun when it comes to dating since it would assist in generating much-needed icebreakers, and any opposition was reportedly described as "tedious cynicism."
Nancy Joe Sales, a journalist, wrote a book regarding online dating exploits she experienced. She also highlighted how AI would eventually eliminate the whole point of dating, which is supposed to be about learning more about someone.

AI-Generated Chats Could Make It Harder to Identify Humans from Machines
It was also reported that there is a risk of technology supercharging the current problem of fake accounts. If actual users decide to add AI-generated chat, bots will then become even harder to identify.
According to Financial Times, this is something that dating apps, as well as their users, have become more sensitive about. That means putting off users is something dating apps don't want to do and can't afford to take.
It comes as the number of paying Tinder users has flatlined with Match Group, its parent company, having its share price fall by over a third in the last 12 months. In 2021, another dating app company, Bumble, was listed at $43 per share but eventually dropped to just $18.
