Stack Overflow is adding new capabilities to its services that would allow users to tap into generative AI capabilities. This comes despite only close to half of developers sharing that they trust AI.
Stack Overflow to Give Developers and Enterprises AI Abilities Through the Addition of OverflowAI
According to the story by Venture Beat, Stack Overflow has long been something that a lot of developers have been relying on. This comes as it provides a community approach when it comes to answering technical questions while also being able to receive mixed responses.
The model is becoming disrupted as the platform offers access to a new technology, with its announcement of saying it would add a list of generative AI capabilities to its services. This applies for the public Stack Overflow site as well as the enterprise version of Stack Overflow which works for Teams.
The new OverflowAI would reportedly come "on the heels" of the popular service's annual development survey. The survey reportedly revealed what the majority of developers felt about the use of AI.
This Comes as Only 40% of Developers Say They Actually Trust AI
It was reported that around only 40% of developers actually trusted AI with the rest either skeptical or untrusting of artificial intelligence at all. The article by Venture Beat reported that OverflowAI wasn't a single product but instead, it was a series of initiatives including updated AI search for its two services.
This included an updated AI search for its public and enterprise platforms. When it comes to the enterprise, it was noted that there was also an OverflowAI Visual Studio code extension that users would be able to utilize as well as Slack integration.
With regards to Stack Overflow for Teams, it was noted that it would also benefit from OverflowAI in order to assist with enterprise knowledge when it comes to ingestion. Regarding the overall goal, it was noted that the main objective was to help make things easier for both developers and enterprises.
Stack Overflow Capabilities Aim to Give Users Better Search Abilities with Citations Included
The capabilities that Stack Overflow aims to provide developers and enterprises with the addition of OverflowAI include its ability to find information and use it more easily. Slack Overflow CEO Prashanth Chandraseker gave a statement to VentureBeat regarding the situation.
Chandraseker noted that one of the first thing they wanted to really focus on is the ability to search because of how important it is to find information and get the right answer. It was also noted that it's important to be able to trust the answer as well.
Another thing that the CEO noted was that what they are doing is trying to give users the ability to be able to ask conversational questions with the help of OverflowAI. Despite asking conversational questions, they expect that users would be able to get answers from the 58 million questions and answers found in the public Stack Overflow, with citations of the specific sources for developers to verify.
