Meta has been sticking to its plan of becoming a "metaverse" company, which started after Facebook changed its name to Meta. Metaverse is a three-dimensional virtual realm in which people interact with each other as avatars, like in the real world but without its physical limitations.
The tech giant is now launching quests and rewards to every user on "Horizon Worlds," the virtual reality live interactive experience by Meta Quests. After billions were poured into the platform's Horizon Worlds, things didn't play out like the company had hoped for.
Meta Is Trying to Get More People Engaged with Its VR by Adding Quests to Its Horizon Worlds Metaverse
According to Engadget, Meta is trying to get users back on Quest, the virtual reality headset developed by the company. To encourage users to return to Meta Quest, Meta is rolling out quests and rewards to every user on Horizon Worlds.
Meta hopes that by doing it, users will interact more with their avatars. The company has already started testing quests through a game it released called "Giant Paddle Mini Golf."
Users can also access the "Bad Roommates" and "Arena Clash" games for quests or rewards. The rewards would give users new avatar clothing options without spending anything for the new look of their metaverse character.
Meta Already Lost $13.7 Billion in 2022 on Its Reality Labs Investment
Engadget reported that Meta decided to design the quests and rewards to provide a way for users to interact more with their metaverse character. Meta has already lost billions of dollars due to the company's growing ambitions beyond social media.
According to CNBC, an example of this was Meta's $13.7 billion losses on Reality Labs in 2022. That came as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's metaverse started to get pricier as the company recorded a $4.28 billion Q4 operating loss.
Main Quests Give Users Rewards Regarding Their Avatar
The main quests also include a way for users to try out the clothing avatar rewards they've earned and other actions like changing their emoji or simply opening up a backpack. Engadget reported that although it was not as complicated as other things, the quests could still be engaging.
To access the quests, players would need to go to their Worlds Menu. Each of the quests reportedly shows how many rewards a user can get when they complete it, and Meta noted that more of these are expected to launch further down the line.
Meta Horizon Worlds Update V120 Adds Quick Actions Menu and New Fixes
The new Meta Horizon Worlds' update v120 would also add a new quick actions menu that would allow users to pause their gameplay and enter mute mode. It would also allow users to follow or block people they encounter within the metaverse.
The update also fixes certain bugs, and whenever users find a new one, they can easily report them by consistently clicking the home button four times or pressing the AB/XY simultaneously.
