The new Copilot Chat AI tool by Github is finally available for public beta. This comes as the AI-powered coding chatbot is live specifically for business users, giving them advanced coding capabilities with the help of AI.
Github Announced the Copilot Chat Feature Which Integrates ChatGPT to Give Developers Coding Assistance
According to the story by The Verge, Github has officially announced the Copilot Chat feature, which integrates ChatGPT in order to provide developers with the ability to help them code. The launch is available for limited public beta for enterprise organizations and companies.
So far, GitHub announced that the Copilot Chat beta will become available to Microsoft's Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code apps business users. The chatbot was reportedly announced in March as part of the Copilot X initiative by GitHub.
The Feature is Expected to Help Users Specifically Accomplish Complex Coding Tasks with the Use of Simple Prompts
The feature is an expansion of the initial Copilot code completion tool, that gives users integrated OpenAI ChatGPT 4 capabilities. The goal of the tool is to help developers save time by allowing them to execute complex tasks with simple prompts.
GitHub highlights that Copilot Chat is still contextually aware of what types of codes users are typing into the code editor. This also means any error messages, which should give it the ability to have developer-specific environment support.
Coding Analysis Would Also Give Users an Explanation of Coding Suggestions and Allow Them to Come Up with Real-Time Guidance
Other key features of the GitHub Copilot Chat include being able to provide users with real-time guidance when it comes to specific coding projects and other abilities. These include coding analysis which gives users an explanation of code suggestions.
The Copilot Chat is also going to give users the ability to get explanations on complex coding concepts and the ability to troubleshoot in order for potential issues to be identified. GitHub announced the Copilot Chat beta in a recent blog post, which highlighted what users might be able to expect.
GitHub Specifies that Ten Days of Work can be Done in a Day and Ten Hours of Work can be Done in an Hour
The blog post had GitHub's vice president of product, Mario Rodriguez, make some bold claims regarding the tool's potential when it comes to increasing the productivity of developers. Rodriguez notes that the software would give users, including inexperienced developers, the ability to be able to come up with an entire application or debug many codes in just a few minutes instead of several days.
It was specified that ten days of work could be finished in just one day and that 10 hours of work could be finished in a single hour. This would be possible with what Rodriguez described as a "single prompt command."
So far, GitHub isn't just focusing on CoPilot for its Copilot X system. The company is also looking to add a voice-to-code feature to allow users to interact through voice commands.
GitHub also launched a YouTube video three months ago about Copilot X.
