YouTube Premium: Here’s How to Cancel Your Subscription Amid the $13.99/Month Price Hike

That sure is a hefty monthly fee for YouTube.

YouTube Premium recently raised its prices to as much as $2, now having a total of $13.99 to pay monthly for one's subscription, but you can unsubscribe to the service if the subscription is too much. Different platforms and companies have raised their prices on subscription rates, and this has changed a lot for consumers and their monthly payments.

One of the best perks of YouTube Premium is the ad-free, uninterrupted viewing, but this may no longer be justifiable on your end, hence a guide to help you pull out from the service.

YouTube Premium's subscription can be easily canceled, and let users go on their merry ways to living again with the streaming platform's many ads, depending on the video.

If you no longer agree with the price hike, then this guide is for you.

To cancel your YouTube Premium subscription, head on over to the app or website and go to your profile photo. Next, click the "Purchases and memberships" option to give you a view of your subscription plan.

Choose either "Premium" (hidden under the YouTube Premium logo) for the app or "Manage membership" on the web platform. Choose "Deactivate" to begin the process.

At this point, YouTube would ask you to choose two options, either pause one's subscription or deactivate it fully. If you choose to pause it, users would be given as much as six months before they get to reactivate it without any fees.

On the other hand, deactivating it on the spot would free them of the monthly fees. According to 9to5 Google, users would have to wait for six months before they get to reactivate their YouTube Premium subscription, but if they deactivate, they may join at any time.

YouTube Premium's Price Hike Now $13.99

The recent $2 price hike of YouTube Premium may not be massive, but that gives you a total of $13.99 per month on the individual tier, and that would rack up to as much as $168 per year, if not taking the discounted annual price.

Still, it is the user's choice whether to continue and accept what Google and YouTube have to offer or move away, especially as price hikes are now frequent in the streaming platform industry.

YouTube Premium's Features

One of the latest features from Google's YouTube Premium is the so-called "1080p Premium" which was recently made available for testing by its paid users. It is important to note that 1080p was already available for a long time, but the previous quality was compressed, making it less sharp, with the Premium feature giving better quality to viewers.

It is important to note that going on Premium gives users massive perks on the service, and one of the most important is the background playback which allows subscribers to continue running a song or video despite the app being closed. There is also the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature available, where a small player would be available to continue the stream despite visiting other apps or tabs.

Now, you get to decide on what to do with your YouTube Premium subscription, if the $14 per month is worth it for your uninterrupted streaming pleasure.
