Meta Threads Sees First Major Update with New Features—Rate Limit Also Coming like Twitter

The latest Meta Threads update is both a pro and a con.

The first update to Meta's Threads app is here, and it is delivering a list of major features to enjoy from the company's latest developments, improvements, and bug fixes. Cameron Roth shared the list of new features on the app, and since version 1.0, this latest update brings a stellar improvement to the different aspects of Threads like translating posts for various languages, 'Following' enhancements, and more.

However, there is a different announcement made by the Instagram CEO, and this centers on introducing a rate limit for Threads, like what Twitter did in the past few weeks.

Meta's Cameron Roth has announced via a Thread post that new updates are coming to the app, and this includes the Translations feature that would help users transform the post to languages they can understand. However, that is not all, as this latest version features more additions to the experience.

Threads are getting a 'Following' tab on the Activity Feed page, and this is similar to what Twitter and TikTok have introduced with their apps. Not only that, it is getting Following on thread replies, allowing subscriptions for unfollowed users, reflecting their Instagram following page, reposter labels, improvements on the activity feed and removing bugs, and significant improvements.

Roth claimed that it may not be immediately available to all users, so some would have to wait and restart their Threads app to get the latest features.

Mosseri: Threads is Getting Rate Limits

On the other hand, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri bears bad news for all Threads users, as it is borrowing a page from its rival, Twitter, and enforcing rate limits on the platform. This is to combat the rising number of spam and bot accounts on the platform, says Mosseri.

However, there may be "false positives" and limit active people on the platform, but the Instagram CEO assures them that if such events happen, contact the Threads team for additional help.

Meta Threads and Its Features

Being its first version ever, Meta Threads faced several issues and problems from when it launched until the most recent time before the update. Initially, the problem centered on uploading photos alongside one's composition, where the app would crash and prevent the user from posting an image, with a workaround using the copy-paste feature of the smartphone.

While Threads is still an app that is starting its little steps into establishing what it aims to bring to the world, there are still massive expectations from the company, especially as there is a surge of users on the platform. In its first week, Threads was already seen to be racking up as many as 100 million users on the platform, being one of the fastest-growing social media in the world.

Threads is one of the most popular apps now, also seeing its recent update and a somewhat downgrade with the rate limit, but all-in-all, these latest changes are towards the betterment of the platform.
