Twitter is Thriving Amidst Meta Threads Surge? CEO, Elon Musk Introduces New Metrics

Elon Musk and the Twitter CEO are celebrating now.

In a surprising announcement by Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino, the short-word social media platform seems to be celebrating a new win, centering on a new metric system on social media usage. And no, this is not another d**k-measuring contest between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, but a new metric for Twitter to measure the interactions and usage on the platform.

That being said, despite the massive surge in popularity, users, and growth of Meta's Threads, Twitter seems unfazed and is rejoicing in this latest win.

The new Twitter CEO recently tweeted an unusual celebratory statement that highly praises the company's team for "outdoing" themselves this week. It also brought a callout to Meta's Threads app, now known as Twitter's largest competitor in the text-based social media industry.

As per Yaccarino, Twitter saw its "largest usage" since it was first reported in February, and this may seem impossible now as many users have opted for Mark Zuckerberg's Threads and left the blue bird social media.

Yaccarino went on to say that "there is only ONE Twitter," despite the many copycats or similar apps in the market.

Cumulative user-seconds per day of phone screentime, as reported by iOS & Android, is hardest to game. I think we may hit an all-time record this week.

Twitter's New Metric System Explained: Not mDAUs

As per the Twitter owner, Elon Musk, this usage metric results was from cumulative user-seconds per day of phone screen time based on iOS and Android. He believes that Twitter may hit a new all-time record this week.

Moreover, T(w)itter Daily News chimed in on the conversation and provided an explanation as to why it is using user-seconds instead of the long-used monthly daily active users (mDAU). They regarded that mDAUs are more likely to be manipulated by bots, as well as include phone notifications in their metrics despite users not opening the app.

Musk replied, attesting that it is "hard to fool," but is not impossible for humans with multiple devices. Still, it is an expensive manipulation tactic for this new user-seconds metric.

Exactly, it is hardest to fool. Troll farms can still manipulate screentime via humans with lots of phones, but that is >100 times more expensive than bots. - Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 11, 2023

Twitter and its Claimed All-Time High Records

Twitter is one of the largest social media platforms in the world, and its popularity remained unchanged before Elon Musk stepped in to buy and lead the platform. He enforced many changes on social media, and this highly affected how users patronized it, but despite those, the platform hit different all-time high records for its daily active user metrics.

Flexing his leadership skills and what he contributed to Twitter, the multi-tech billionaire flaunted how his actions and policies have led the social media to be a fast-growing platform despite its status. Still, this was amidst different personalities, celebrities, and influences that left Twitter for alternate platforms that do not have Musk as its leader.

Meta's Threads is now proving to be a worthy rival of Twitter, seeing significant growth in not less than a week, only showing how people are looking for its alternative. However, Twitter remains unfazed by all of this, with the company even celebrating its wins now, changing the traditional mDAU metrics to a user-seconds measurement that is more accurate and expensive to fool.
