Threads already received more than 30 million sign-ups only hours after its launch. This was pitched by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg as a friendly rival to Twitter that similarly allows users to post messages, reply to other users, and like or repost messages.
Receiving 30 Million Sign-ups
The morning after its launch, Meta announced that its newest social media platform 'Threads' has already reached the 30-million mark for new sign-ups. According to a report from Reuters, this could be dubbed the "Twitter-Killer" as it emerges as the first real threat to the Elon Musk-owned company.
Aside from this achievement, Threads is also currently the top free application on Apple's App Store for both the United States and the United Kingdom. Founder and Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg stated, "Our vision is to take the best parts of Instagram and create a new experience for text, ideas, and discussing what's on your mind."
He also believed that the world needs this kind of friendly community, so he is very grateful to all who supported the launch of the company's newest platform. The arrival of the latest platform comes after Zuckerberg and CEO Musk traded barbs for months, even threatening to fight each other physically.
Taking Advantage of Twitter's Ruination
Although Meta's efforts may sound wholesome, the company took advantage of its access to billions of users from Instagram and saw the opportunity to launch the app in the middle of the controversy as users were unhappy with Twitter for the recent changes to the platform. Additionally, Threads released the app a day before the original launch.
TechCrunch reported that Twitter is on life support as it implemented tweet-reading rate limits over the weekend. Aside from Meta, other companies also enjoyed the company's intervals of buzz, including MAstodon and Bluesky, which also happens to be Twitter's rivals in the market.
For the first time in over a decade, Zuckerberg also used Twitter to celebrate the launch of the newest application. This promotion could attract a ton of engagement as Twitter has continued to disappoint its users since Musk took over the company.

Differences between Threads vs Twitter
While the two companies look similar, there are still some differences between Threads and Twitter. According to CBS News, Threads does not use hashtags and currently does not have direct messages, unlike Twitter and other platforms like Instagram.
Meta is billing Threads as a platform where users can follow and connect directly with their favorite creators who love the same things. This means it is very similar to Twitter but will focus on the popular creators and influencers on Instagram.
