The July 6 promise of Meta to launch its new app, called Threads, a direct rival of Twitter, was not followed, as the company surprisingly dropped it a day earlier. That is a good thing, as everyone can now try what it has to offer.
Threads are the recently confirmed text-based app from Instagram, and many regarded it as the Twitter alternative, which is timely as the Blue Bird social media platform is now in chaos.
Meta's answer to Twitter's short-word social media now arrives with Threads, highly mapped off of Instagram to bring all text and media content to the new platform.
Meta's Threads Is Now Available to Download for Free
The Threads is now available to download on the Apple App Store and Google Play. The app was recently downloaded automatically for those who pre-ordered it. While many were surprised that it came a day before its expected release date, some are rejoicing with its latest arrival as it brings an alternative to netizens.
Several Thread posts are now blowing up, and different creators are already making their presence known on the new Meta platform.
Unlike on Twitter, users can view the posts on Thread via links they find online, but be careful as some may be clickbait or phishing links. There was already a meme about a burning Twitter and using Threads as their main platform to celebrate the new app.
Instagram Link Helps Account Creation for Threads
Amidst the chaos on Twitter, Meta's Threads is criticized for its massive data and information harvesting, as earlier revealed in the App Store's information section.
It is also evident when first logging in or creating an account with Threads, especially as it uses one's existing Instagram account to help set up their profiles on the text-based platform. In this account setup, users can set up their accounts with only one click.
Threads vs. Twitter: Amidst the Chaos
Twitter is now experiencing another chaos on its platform, and the many problems on the app arose when Elon Musk and his team decided to limit the tweets viewed by a specific account in a day.
After doing so, many users complained about Twitter facing an outage or different app malfunctions, significantly affecting its users' browsing experience.
Amidst these issues earlier this week and over the last weekend, the buzz around Meta's version of Twitter arose, and soon after, many have seen its arrival on the coming soon page of the App Store. It was set to be launched by July 6.
However, Meta unveiled it just after midnight Wednesday in the United Kingdom in Apple and Google Android app stores in over 100 countries, including the United States, Britain, Australia, Canada, and Japan.
According to the Associated Press, early celebrity users Colombian pop star Shakira, chef Gordon Ramsay, and Mark Hoyle, known as the YouTuber LadBaby.
Almost similar to Twitter but is an entirely different experience, the Threads app features buttons to like, repost, reply to, or quote a "thread," and counters to show the number of likes and answers a post has received.
Each post is limited to 500 characters, more than the 280-character threshold of Twitter. Users can also include links, images, and videos up to five minutes long.
Meta and Twitter's feud has only begun, and the Mark Zuckerberg-owned company already has an answer to what Elon Musk introduced on his platform.
And the two tech billionaire's rivalry could end up spilling over into real life. In an online exchange, they seemingly agreed to a cage match, but it is still unclear if they will actually make a face-off to the ring.
