Gaming accessory manufacturer 8BitDo has unveiled the NeoGeo CD Wireless Controller, a contemporary rendition of the iconic gamepad from the Neo Geo CD console.
The wireless controller, officially licensed by SNK, the original manufacturer of Neo Geo CD, is now available for pre-order at $34.99 and is set to ship on August 15th.
Staying True to the Retro-Style
The NeoGeo CD Wireless Controller stays true to the classic design of its predecessor. It features an analog stick on the left side, start and select buttons in the center, and four face buttons on the right.
Based on The Verge's report, 8BitDo has made efforts to replicate the "classic click-style joystick" of the original, ensuring that users experience the same tactile and precise feel, complete with the satisfying clicky sound.
Modern Twist for SNK's Neo Geo
While staying faithful to the original design, the NeoGeo CD Wireless Controller incorporates modern features.
By connecting via Bluetooth or 2.4GHz, you can use it wirelessly. That's not the only thing you can achieve here since it also comes with a rechargeable battery. If you have this, you can kindly ditch the need to replace your batteries.
Additionally, the modern version incorporates two shoulder buttons, a turbo function, and the ability to customize the button layout.

Neo Geo CD Compatibility
8BitDo emphasizes that the NeoGeo CD Wireless Controller is compatible with multiple platforms. Users can seamlessly connect and use the controller with Windows, Android devices, and the Neo Geo Mini console. This compatibility extends the appeal of the controller, particularly for individuals who may prefer an alternative to the built-in analog stick of the Neo Geo Mini.
According to another report by Engadget, it will also extend support for iOS and macOs later this year.
The NeoGeo CD Wireless Controller joins 8BitDo's extensive lineup of gamepads. The company offers a range of both modern and retro-style accessories, along with innovative DIY kits designed to repurpose old controllers, including the N64 gamepad, for compatibility with modern gaming systems.
