ChatGPT: OpenAI Disables Browse with Bing Feature As it Helps Bypass Paywalls on Websites

OpenAI is disabling a feature to avoid a copyright strike.

Technology is what you make it to be, as despite having specific purposes, a person's intuitive utilization and purpose ultimately make it one unique experience, something which OpenAI did not expect for ChatGPT. The company recently discovered that the famed AI chatbot's new feature called "Browse" via Microsoft's Bing has the capability to bypass paywalls when requested.

With that, OpenAI decided to disable the feature until it is able to create a workaround or fix this so that it would not trump the paywalls from certain websites.

OpenAI announced via a tweet that the Browse beta feature is now disabled for all users, especially because of a discovered flaw that allows it to access paywalled websites via the internet. This was reported by ChatGPT+ subscribers who have utilized the beta and provided their observations or feedback on the new AI feature.

This feature was originally made available to premium subscribers of the service, and the company reiterated that it did the right thing by putting it on beta before its wide availability.

With the beta testing program working for OpenAI's operations, it seems like more features will first enter the beta limited availability before more can take advantage of the tech.

OpenAI Does Not Want Any Copyright Strikes, Problems

Users have made ChatGPT obey their commands, even if they ask the AI chatbot to access paid websites for them, allowing them to view premium content from other websites.

And while this was not OpenAI's intention, it happened.

Still, the company claims that it is owning up to this, saying that they want to do content owners right by preventing ChatGPT to bypass these paywalls further.

AI Developments: ChatGPT and Bing

OpenAI became one of the fastest-growing companies in the world after it released different AI developments, with a significant partnership with Microsoft. While Microsoft has already adopted the GPT large-language model in the past, it was only until recent times that OpenAI adopted Bing as a partner search engine for the AI chatbot.

The Browse beta has been a helpful feature for users as apart from getting their content made by ChatGPT in an instant, it can also help them search the web better with the AI tool.

OpenAI's API open access to all has been a success for them as well, with different companies already integrating ChatGPT into their systems including Snapchat, Microsoft, and Mercedes-Benz.

ChatGPT remains as one of the most iconic AI chatbot content generators of this time, and this is because it has the capability to bring bountiful content while only giving it a short prompt. The Browse beta was not intended to bypass paywalls and OpenAI acknowledged it immediately, doing the right thing by fixing its flaws and disabling it for now.
