Firefox 116 for Mac is Coming, New macOS Browser Only Supports Catalina and Up

Mozilla's new Firefox version is dropping old macOS devices.

Mozilla is releasing a new Firefox called version 116 intended for Mac computers, and along with its slur of new features and tech, comes its latest minimum requirements for the devices. It now requires users to be either updated to the latest macOS or at least run the macOS 10 Catalina to get the new version intended for Apple's computers.

The tech company announced that it is dropping support for older macOS versions for the latest Firefox update, especially for those who are still using the Mojave and older.

The latest Firefox version has dropped, and it is version 115 which brings the latest there is from Mozilla's development of the renowned app for different platforms. Mozilla dropped bombs on version 115's announcement as it would be the last version for old computer OS including the macOS and Windows 7 and 8.

For the macOS, this is the last update version available, but it will bring an ESR 115 migration for users in older versions of the Mac that will provide them with the support for older operating system versions.

This means that starting Firefox 116, older macOS computers will no longer receive updates, and would focus more on what Apple continues to support.

Firefox to Drop Support for Old macOS Versions

So what does this exactly mean for Firefox for macOS users?

Once the next Firefox update appears, centering on version 116, users with macOS 10.15 Catalina and up would be able to download and use it for their browsing needs.

Firefox dropped support for older versions of the Catalina, as well as the macOS Mojave, and those that came before these releases from Apple.

The Firefox browser has now entered its three-digit version era, now centering on the hundreds version which is focusing on many tech features and functions for the internet app. However, it was previously regarded that entering this era would cause web browsers to face issues in accessing specific websites, despite its advancements.

Since its dawn, Mozilla has promised a fast and light browser for users, centering on privacy features via the Firefox app for computers and smartphones. Late last year, it introduced better privacy advancements to Firefox and it also brought a quick way to access Private Browsing on the platform, helping in keeping their browser activity private.

Firefox has been a trusted web browser app for the Mac and other computer platforms where users enjoyed its renowned experience for it. Now, it is looking to bring its latest update for the Mac with version 116, and it comes with restrictions for older macOS versions, only supporting the latest ones from macOS 10.15 Catalina or later.
