Rivian, the renowned electric vehicle car company, has recently acquired a company called Iternio, best known for their development of the widely-used app, A Better Route Planner. The acquisition opens up massive opportunities for the app's development, but also a significant one for Rivian who will soon integrate the app to its in-car navigation system.
Rivian Acquires Iternio, Maker of A Better Route Planner App
According to a press release from Rivian Automotive, the company has successfully acquired Iternio, the Swedish mapping company, also known for its massive community in North America and Europe. Iternio's A Better Route Planner also joins Rivian, and the EV company has massive goals for the app and its future in helping people navigate better.
CEO RJ Scaringe said that "A Better Routeplanner leads the way in EV trip planning and is an important platform for driving EV adoption, which is why it's so important for us to keep the platform open for all." This means that despite the acquisition, ABRP would remain an app that everyone may utilize for their needs, regardless of their car make.
"We will also be integrating ABRP's capabilities into our upcoming trip planning release, giving Rivian drivers the ability to chart out detailed trips that include key aspects of EV ownership, such as when to charge, for how long, and adjusting how many miles of range they'd like when arriving at their destination," Scaringe added.

Rivian to Integrate ABRP into its In-Car Navigation System
TechCrunch reported that despite ABRP being a standalone app, there would be a soon massive integration of Rivian EV's in-car navigational system with Iternio's technology. This would improve the already-substantial navigational system found on Rivian's cars.
Rivian also said that the app's data would also help them expand more of their Adventure Network for off-site EV charging.
Rivian and its Electric Vehicle Developments
Rivian is best known for its iconic electric vehicle developments in the market, centering on the R1T electric pickup that once rivaled that of Tesla, Ford, GM, and more with their releases. Still, it is one iconic electric pickup as it brings multiple features for its drivers, including submerging into a lake to retrieve a boat from the waters.
The company is also famous for its partnership with Amazon, one of its main backers during its early days, as it would fulfill the company's electrification goals with electric vans. Back in the holiday season in 2022, Rivian delivered the first batch of these Amazon Electric Delivery vans to the company, with as much as 1,000 EVs to bring the public's packages with clean energy.
Its massive network and plans for the company are still looking at developments, especially with its goals to bring Adventure Charging to the public, alongside other initiatives. Their latest acquisition will help them achieve more of their goals in creating a network and helping drivers navigate better when on the road, thanks to Iternio's tech to soon be integrated into Rivian EVs.
