A massive earthquake has shaken the entire Philippines today, and this was felt in different provinces and islands of the country, as well as the seventh largest island of the country, Mindoro. The tremor caused by a magnitude 6.5 earthquake was felt on the massive island of Luzon, located in the northeast region of Palawan.
Earthquake occurrence in the country is a regular event, especially as it is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, known for its significant seismic activities in the region.
Mindoro, Philippines Struck by Magnitude 6.5 Earthquake
As per the report by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) via Reuters, the Philippines was struck with a magnitude 6.5 earthquake that was felt all around the country, mainly in Luzon. This particular event significantly affected the island of Mindoro, located in the Region IV-B of the Philippines, known for its group of massive lands.
This particular earthquake which took place on June 15, has a depth of 10 kilometers (6.5 miles), as per the GFZ.
It is not yet the end of the calamity for the country, as it is expecting aftershocks from the recent quake, a regular occurrence that comes after the first shaking starts.
Tremors Were Felt All Over Luzon and its Provinces
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the earthquakes were felt across the country, but the strongest one manifested at 10:19 AM which was also felt in the country's capital, Manila, and nearby provinces.
The magnitude 6.2 earthquake's epicenter was in Calatagan, Batangas, a province in Region IV-A CALABARZON, in the southern part of Luzon island.
Earlier reports also show weaker shakes in the country which manifested earlier in the day, as well as in its southernmost island, Mindanao, particularly in the provinces of Davao Occidental and Saranggani.
Earthquakes and their Shaking of the Lands
Earthquakes are considered to be one of the most dangerous natural calamities that manifest in different regions of the world regularly, with significant studies and tech developments dedicated to them. One is with the "MyShake" app which was developed by the University of California Berkley Seismology lab to alert the public of upcoming shakes.
While the Philippines and nearby regions in the Pacific are the ones that regularly experience this calamity, earthquakes may manifest anywhere in the world. There was once a massive earthquake that shook Alaska with a magnitude 7.8 tremor that the Northerners felt, also triggering a tsunami warning for those nearby coastal areas.
Earthquakes cannot be avoided anywhere in the world, as people could not stop the Earth from shaking and doing its thing. The best thing to avoid potential destruction and death caused by this is to be ready for when it comes, as well as know the basic survival drills for when an earthquake strikes.
The Philippines' latest quake was felt in significant areas of the country, centering mostly on the largest island of Luzon and nearby areas.
