More than a decade has passed, and there is still no sequel to the famous "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim." The most recent news for "Elder Scrolls VI" is that it might be the last game in the fantasy series Todd Howard makes.
This was the latest revelation by the director of Bethesda Game Studios, where he has led the development of The Elder Scrolls series. However, "Elder Scrolls VI," which was confirmed five years ago, is still nowhere to be found as challenges, obstacles, and delays reportedly plague the RPG game's development.
'Elder Scrolls VI' Will Likely be the Last Game With Todd Howard
In an interview with IGN, Todd Howard said that the next game, "Elder Scrolls VI," will likely be his last game to develop.
He cited the length of time it takes for the studio to make its games, including the upcoming sequel to the Elder Scrolls franchise. Howard reiterated that a game from Bethesda Game Studios could take many years to develop.
"I want to be faster, but speed isn't the goal," he told the outlet, adding that the Elder Scrolls' upcoming game development is taking longer than previous titles.
With that being said, Howard noted that "Elder Scrolls VI" may be his last game in the fantasy franchise, but the director still left out concrete information regarding the sequel title.
'Elder Scrolls VI' Production Delays
ComicBook Gaming reported that the sequel title will not be released until closer to 2030. Thus, the "Elder Scrolls VI" could likely be the 52-year-old director's last outing with the series if the same period of time were to play out if the company intends to make "Elder Scrolls VII."
"As we look to an 'Elder Scrolls VI'... I probably shouldn't say this. But if I do the math, I'm not getting any younger. How long do people play Elder Scrolls for? That may be the last one I do. I don't know," Todd Howard told IGN.
The Elder Scrolls Franchise
Elder Scrolls is one of the most iconic RPG fantasy franchises in the market, but the studio's most recent, the "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," was released in 2011.
Bethesda Game Studios then noted that players should not expect an immediate sequel for the game, which may be available in a long time. The company said this in 2015.
Since then, the Skyrim game has been re-released over the years, as it was once a famous title for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and the older version of Windows. The game has been filled with iconic mods, which lets gamers enjoy more of Skyrim in a different light.
Based on the studio's record for development timescales, "Elder Scrolls VI" may skip the current generation of consoles entirely, and whatever the company releases after "Elder Scrolls VI" will likely be launched on Microsoft's next-generation console.
