Android Users Love iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus as Apple Sees More Switchers Compared to Previous Models

If the 10 million unit sales over the launch weekend did not bear testimony to the popularity of the latest iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, then the fact that even Android lovers have fallen hook, line and sinker for the Apple smartphones will indeed validate the appeal of these gadgets.

Android users love the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones, according to Apple CEO Tim Cook, who revealed during Apple's earnings call Q&A session that the company saw more switchers to these models in the last quarter when compared to previous iterations.

"We saw more Android users switch than they did the previous three launches," stated Cook.

The CEO, however, did not specify which three launches but presumably he was referencing the iPhone 5, iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c launches.

At the earnings call for Apple's fiscal 2015 first quarter ended Dec. 27, 2014, Cook was also asked the sales revenue generated by the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus individually. While he did not disclose the numbers, he revealed that of the two, the iPhone 6 was more popular with consumers.

While the bigger screen sizes on the latest iPhones may have enticed erstwhile Android users to transition to iOS, Cook divulged that existing iPhone users were yet to upgrade themselves to the newer iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models. Only a "small fraction" switched to the newer models.

Moreover, in the last 90 days -- likely bolstered by the holiday season -- Apple sold 74.5 million iPhone units, which makes the 2014 iPhone launch the most successful to date. By comparison, the company sold 51 million iPhones in Q1 FY14.

Another milestone for Apple was the shipment of its one billionth iOS device in November 2014. The device in question is an iPhone 6 Plus (64GB model) in space grey, which is now at the Apple headquarters.

Buoyed by the success of iPhones, Mac and the App Store, Apple posted the highest-ever record quarterly revenue of $74.6 billion, as well as a record high quarterly net profit of $18 billion.
