Instagram's AI Chatbot

Instagram may be working on an AI chatbot, claimed by App Researcher and Reverse Engineer Alessandro Paluzzi. According to a report from Engadget, the AI agents can answer questions and give advice that will depend on users' picked personalities out of 30.

It seems like users can bring the chatbot into a conversation they are having with someone by mentioning it (using the symbol @). Once the feature is released, the AI-powered chatbot will help users who find it challenging to write messages or simply type a comment. The leaks did not reveal what tools related to AI Instagram would use to power its chatbots.

Aside from riding the AI hype train, Instagram is also rumored to be working on a Twitter viral. TechCrunch reported that the codename Barcelona will be a stand-alone application that integrates the platform. While the company declined to comment regarding the accuracy of this rumor, Instagram did not deny them. If this is true, the app should be coming this summer.

Looking back to his previous leaks, Paluzzi has a good track record as he spotted evidence of a paid verification system in the platform only a couple of weeks before the announcement. Last February, Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg stated that the company had a team working on AI personas that would be dedicated to Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp.

Meta's AI Efforts

It remains unclear if Instagram will roll this out. However, Meta has been using AI tools in many of the established sectors of its business, such as ad sales. The company announced in May the release of AI Sandbox, which will help advertisers create alternate versions of ads. AI Coding tool Code Compose was also unveiled but is still not available publicly.

Other Platforms with aI Chatbots

Other social media platforms have also launched their own AI chatbot. As per Business Insider, Spanchat launched My AI chatbot powered by Open AI's GPT technology. This can write haikus, plan trips, and recommend birthday gifts. Paywalled My AI Snaps feature was also released, which allows the technology to see generated images.

Despite its potential, the chatbot received some backlash from its users. It was reported that Snapchat's developed product lacked appropriate age-gating features. For instance, the chatbot told a reporter (who was using an account registered as a teenager) how to cover up the smell of alcohol and weed and set the mood for engaging in sexual intercourse.
