Analyst Shares Expected Apple AR/VR Headset Specs: 5000+ Nits for HDR and More

Find out new rumored Apple AR/VR headset specs.

While other companies have reportedly already launched their own AR/VR headsets, Apple was reportedly taking its time developing its own. Although not much has been released yet, more speculations of the upcoming device's specs have slowly started to surface.

More Rumored Specs of Apple's Upcoming AR/VR Headset Shared by Analyst Ross Young

Now, another analyst is sharing what they think about Apple's upcoming AR/VR headset. A display analyst, Ross Young, shares their thoughts regarding additional specifications around the headset.

According to the story by Mac Rumors, they expect Apple to reveal its long-awaited AR/VR headset during the Worldwide Developers Conference. So far, there has already been talk about what specs the device could pack.

The New Rumors Say that the Headset Could Pack 5,000 Nits of Brightness and 4,000 Pixels Per Inch

Some of the rumors think the new device would come with a 4K micro OLED display and an 8K total resolution. Analyst Ross Young has just shared some additional specifications expected of the upcoming device.

This reportedly includes its measurements of being 1.41 inches diagonally. On top of that, the device will reportedly bring 5,000 nits of brightness and 4,000 pixels in a single inch.

This Towers Over the Meta Quest 2 Which Can Only Go Up to 100 Nits of Brightness and without HDR

However, this comes as even headsets from its competitors are hard to compute. The report notes like Sony and Meta don't even advertise their own specs for their headsets beyond the resolution and the pixels per inch.

Despite the lack of other details, even with the rumored specs from Ross Young, it already greatly compares to the Meta Quest 2, which only maxes out at 100 nits of brightness without offering HDR.

Mark Zuckerberg Once Shared the Starbursts VR Headset Prototype Which Promised 20,000 Nits

Another competitor, the HoloLens 2, only caps out at 500 nits of brightness, while the PSVR 2 headset from Sony maxes out at 265 nits of brightness. The latter reportedly has an advertised HDR feature connected to a compatible HDR display.

Previously in 2022, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared the Starbursts VR headset prototype, which was supposed to reach 20,000 nits of brightness. However, the device wasn't reportedly wearable on one's head, and the company has not yet implemented this technology.

Most High-End TVs Reportedly Only Reach 5,000 Nits

Also, most high-end TVs only offer from 2,000 to 5,000 nits. For example, a 98-inch Samsung TV can only reach 5,000 nits. At the same time, the company already advertises this as having "stunning, accurate, color detail" along with a contrast range which they describe as being capable of providing a "beyond-life-like experience."

Should Apple really be able to go past the 5,000 nit barrier, it would be the first company to do so with a headset and allow it to tower over its competitors. It was also noted that the specs would allow the company to stand out compared to its competitors.
