WhatsApp Users Can Soon Edit Messages Within 15-Minute Window: What's the Catch?

Just a fair warning: you can only edit your WhatsApp messages for up to 15 minutes after being sent.

Meta-backed platform WhatsApp is bringing a new feature for users who want to get back on track and edit their messages on conversations.

With the new update, you can edit your messages within 15 minutes of sending them. It's quite a short time to change your message, but it's still great for those who want to edit their chats immediately.

Earlier this week, WhatsApp confirmed that users can soon experience editing their messages for up to 15 minutes after being delivered.

In the next few weeks, it is expected that the feature will debut on the popular messaging platform, according to CNBC. It is estimated that it will be available to two billion WhatsApp users globally.

"From correcting a simple misspelling to adding extra context to a message, we're excited to bring you more control over your chats," the company mentioned in its Monday blog post.

How Does the Edit Function Work on WhatsApp?

According to a report by BBC, you can easily use the feature by long-pressing the edit button on a sent message. Then, select Edit from the menu, which will go up to 15 minutes after clicking it.

The edited messages will show up on the conversations as "edited," and you can easily identify them. This is to make sure that the recipient can notice the changes in the new message.

Apparently, WhatsApp says that the recipient of the message won't be able to view the adjustments of the edited content over time.

Before WhatsApp prepares to roll out the feature, other messaging platforms, such as Signal and Telegram, are the first to bring it to the public.

As you will notice, it was a long-time Facebook feature released a few years ago. When FB came out, some users complained that they easily resorted to typing errors, especially if they used their mobile phones.

To make things easier for the Facebook user, Meta decided to bring modifications to the app, and that's the start of the editing function.

WhatsApp is Your Daily Reminder to Enter Your Password

In another article written by Android Police, the latest WhatsApp build is welcoming a new update where users will be prompted to enter their 64-digit key.

According to WABetaInfo, the feature will serve as a reminder so users cannot skip writing their password. Unfortunately, if you forget to write your digital key, there's a possibility that you will be locked out of the app.

The WhatsApp chat history is manageable, but it lacks the "Forgot password" functionality which is necessary for those who tend to lose access to their password. Both Gmail and Facebook share the same feature.

If the most dreaded event of your life happens and there's no way to remember your password, you can easily reverse this by using the "Turn Off Encrypted Backups" option.
