Apple App Store Transparency Report for 2022 is Now Available

Apple has released its first-ever App Store Transparency Report, marking a significant step towards increased openness and accountability. This report comes as part of the company's agreement with developers in a lawsuit settlement regarding the scrutiny faced by apps on the App Store in 2021.

The transparency report provides valuable insights into Apple's app review process and sheds light on various aspects of the App Store ecosystem. The data presented focuses on the year 2022, offering a comprehensive overview of the actions taken by Apple about app submissions, account deactivations, app removals, and more.

In the past few days, Apple also published a report regarding its App Store's security report which centered on preventing fraudulent apps to steal as much as $2 billion apps from users.

What Does the App Store Transparency Report Entail?

According to the report, in 2022, there were a staggering 1,783,232 apps available on the App Store. Throughout the year, Apple received a total of 6,101,913 app submissions from developers.

However, the stringent review process led to 1,679,694 app rejections. These rejections were based on factors such as safety, performance, design, and legal considerations, ensuring that only high-quality and compliant apps make their way onto the platform.

Interestingly, the report highlights that 253,466 app submissions were approved after initially being rejected. This indicates Apple's commitment to working closely with developers to address and resolve any issues that led to the initial rejection.

Additionally, the transparency report reveals that 186,195 apps were removed from the App Store during the same period. These removals were attributed to violations of the App Store rules and guidelines.

Apple's App Store and its Problems

Issues plagued the App Store as developers and companies spoke up against Apple's policies on its app distribution platform, with one of the most iconic being Epic Games and its "Fortnite" app on iOS. However, Apple is the hailed winner in this lawsuit, despite Epic's compelling case.

Twitter's Elon Musk and Spotify's Daniel Elk previously raised their concerns about the App Store's unfair rates, one that has been a massive issue against the Cupertino giant.

The App Store Transparency Report showcases Apple's willingness to be more transparent and accountable to its developer community and users. By sharing these vital statistics, Apple aims to foster trust, promote responsible app development, and further improve the overall app ecosystem on the App Store.
