Bluesky, Jack Dorsey’s New Twitter Competitor, Client Software Is Now Open Source

Three apps will bring a short-word social media divide among the public.

A leading Twitter alternative in closed beta is looking to make its experiences available to the public, and this is by going open-sourced on GitHub, a move that will allow access to creating more social media like it. This is a massive step for the platform, especially as more Twitter users are looking for alternatives, and one is coming from Instagram.

Elon Musk, Twitter's Chief Tweet, initially claimed that he wants to make the short-word social media a decentralized platform, but its founder seems to be ahead of the race with Bluesky.

Jack Dorsey's Bluesky Brings Open-Source Code to GitHub

As per the report from ZDNet, Bluesky recently made its client software open-sourced and it is accessible to all for them to use on building their social media or same experiences.

Why does it matter? As Bluesky is allowing more people to access its client code online, more tweaks for the decentralized social media will be possible in the future for the team to use. However, that is not the only case.

Developers may also use Bluesky's codebase to build their social media platform based on what the new experience brings, under the MIT License which it is under.

The company released the code via GitHub on May 15, and it is facing massive fame for what it brought the public, something which Twitter cannot exactly do, despite its previous code release.

Decentralized Bluesky Wants You to Access its Code

By making its codebase open-sourced, Bluesky is allowing access to its code without massive repercussions apart from outright copying what it has to offer to the world. This means that more experiences may arrive soon, and not be limited to choices brought out by innovators in the tech world.

More and more Twitter alternatives are coming, with Instagram and Meta looking to debut one by June, and Bluesky coming soon as it is currently on an invite-only basis for its beta testing.

What Does Bluesky Have to Offer?

There have been talks of Bluesky's development since Jack Dorsey stepped down from being the Twitter CEO after more than a decade when he returned to the company. Initially, the new social media platform released the first codes that it shared with the public via GitHub, and it gave the public a preview of the decentralized take by Dorsey to Twitter.

Back in 2022, Dorsey claimed that he is among the people to blame for making the internet centralized, as Twitter was originally decentralized, but changed into a different experience for all.

It seems as though, Bluesky will be making up for what Twitter caused, particularly for the social media's current state in the present, with the new platform to be making it all about the people.

With platforms like Twitter alternatives getting massive traction on the internet now, Bluesky is one promising experience that will make social media something where users feel like they own it. This decentralized take from Dorsey and other developers will soon bring this experience to all, and this open-source may very well allow more experiences to arrive soon.
