Anovion Technologies announced today that it has selected Decatur County in Southwest Georgia as the location of its first manufacturing capacity for its premium synthetic graphite anode materials. This will be North America's largest graphite production facility.
Largest Graphite Production Facility in North America
An initial investment worth $800 million was signed by the government of Southwest Georgia and Chicago-based climate tech-driven advanced materials company Anovion Technologies, to build the largest graphite production facility in North America. According to a report from Electrek, this will be the first of this scale for the company.
The 1.5 million-square-foot factory will be located in Bainbridge, in Decatur County, Georgia, which was because of its existing and planned low and carbon-free energy sources of power, short supply chains, and access to existing rail infrastructure. Anovion Chief Executive Officer Eric Stopka stated that choosing Georgia is a perfect choice.
"Not only does existing infrastructure make Southwest Georgia an attractive location for Anovion's new facility, but the proximity to other battery and EV manufacturing plants will allow us to further reduce our carbon footprint," he added.
The facility is expected to create around 400 jobs in total, based on the company's announcement. This means that the company will be hiring a variety of technical, production, and engineering roles, as well as administrative and management positions.
Choosing this location will ensure the company of having the ecosystem in place to produce the highest quality and sustainable synthetic graphite anode material on the market today. Forty thousand metric tonnes of synthetic graphite anode material will be produced in the factory annually, specifically made for lithium-ion batteries.
Welcoming Anovion
As per Georgia's press release, Governor Brian Kemp proudly welcomed the company in the state that is considered the number one for business that is fast becoming the e-mobility capital of the nation. The governor stated, "Job creators like them are recognizing that every corner of our state has the resources and workforce needed for success."
He added that he is looking forward to celebrating their partnership once he meets the team personally, along with the hardworking Georgians of Decatur County. Meanwhile, Bainbridge Mayor Edward Reynold stated that this decision is a huge win for the company, knowing that their workforce is ready to embrace this kind of opportunity for a very long time.
This announcement is a step forward in the local government's direction. Board of Commissioners Chairman Pete Stephens stated that Decatur County's leadership has been focused on attracting companies and quality jobs to the community for many years already. Having jobs like these will provide quality employment opportunities for decades to come.
Aside from Georgia, Anovion is also expanding its efforts by developing its Anovion Center of Excellence and its hydro-powered manufacturing facility in Niagara Falls, New York. This is notable as one of the only qualified sources in the country for battery-grade synthetic graphite.
