Artificial intelligence took over the world earlier this year, and this is because of the advanced features and helpful functions it brings to users, but AI music generation is not something that the industry takes lightly. Spotify is now on a purge to remove thousands of AI-made songs in the platform, with a massive percentage of it being the ones seeing significant streaming, mostly from bots.
The service called Boomy is also amidst this issue, as the generative music platform debuts different songs from text prompts, now taking over Spotify's streams.
Spotify is Purging Thousands of AI-made Songs in the Platform
According to the Financial Times report (via Ars Technica), there is a growing problem on Spotify which involves AI-generated music and bots taking over the streaming platform. With this, Spotify is now looking to purge and remove them from the music app as it is not only promoting the use of AI for making songs but also involves bots to listen to them and boost their revenue.
The company behind these AI-generated songs is known as a California-based startup called Boomy, with its Boomy AI claiming to have made over 14 million AI-generated songs already.
It was also reported that Universal Music has flagged all of the main streaming platforms in the world, mentioning the "suspicious" streaming activity on Boomy's tracks.
The report claimed that Spotify said that tens of thousands of Boomy music were already removed from the platform.
AI-Made Songs are Taking Over, With Bots as Listeners
AI-made songs are now taking over streaming platforms, and that is not the only problem, especially for those artists who create songs out of scratch, one that takes them a long time in doing so.
There are also "listening bots" who play these songs over and over, one that would help boost their fame and revenue on platforms like Spotify.
Spotify Amidst the AI Take Over in the World
The tech industry has been filled with the wonders and helpfulness of artificial intelligence with the rise of the likes of ChatGPT and other generative AI platforms present now.
With the many AI applications and their API available for developers to build apps or other experiences with, other industries see these types of apps available to bring the experience to them in under several seconds. There was one TikTok viral music called "Heart on My Sleeve" which features Canadian hip-hop artists, Drake and The Weeknd, but was made via AI, as there is no released music from the two's collaboration yet.
It was also made available on Spotify for a brief time before it was taken down after seeing massive streams.
Many may see this as a dispute in the music industry, particularly with artists, producers, and other concerned individuals who use their creative juices in creating tracks, beats, lyrics, and other elements that make up a sound.
Spotify is not entirely enforcing a ban on AI music on its platform, but reports are now swirling in regarding complaints behind this, as well as listening bots that boost its streams that add to the uploader's revenue, overshadowing other artists, both in the indie and mainstream music.
