Is Jack Dorsey's Bluesky Social the New Twitter? Here's What We Know

Bluesky Social could be a suitable replacement for Twitter.

With Twitter's current controversies, it's reasonable that more people are looking for an alternative social media app.

One of the replacements you can explore is Bluesky Social, a platform by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.

It might not be as popular as Elon Musk's newly-acquired site, but this could be the real antidote that users are looking to get away from Elon Musk.

What is Bluesky Social?

Is Jack Dorsey's Bluesky Social the Newest Twitter? Here's What New About this Elon Musk-Free Platform
If you find scrolling over Twitter posts boring, you might find a new place on Bluesky Social, a microblogging platform made by ex-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. Apple App Store

According to Techradar, Dorsey silently rolled out Bluesky Social in October 2022. At that time, fans were wondering what's in store about this decentralized social media platform.

For quite some time, Dorsey and his team are experimenting about the features that will be available on the app. It was only in 2023 when Bluesky Social got iOS and Android support.

If you think that Mastodon is not for you, you are free to explore Bluesky Social like a brand-new Twitter app. You can make your own posts and share them with your friends. You can also follow your favorite content creators and artists and even like their notes.

Bluesky also makes sure that your online credential can be easily transferred from one platform to another thanks to its Authenticated Transfer Protocol.

Toned-Down Version of Twitter

The Dorsey-backed Bluesky is something you can see online except for the fact that it's quite a "trimmed-down version of Twitter."

You can create an account by dropping your username and your desired password in your preferred server. You can also edit your display name if you want.

Additionally, you can also see avatar images, banner images, and more which you can use as your photo. There are designated tabs for Posts, Followers, and other icons which make you feel like you're living in Twitter 2.0.

You can attach links to your post which is only limited to 300 characters. Aside from that, you can put your story description and much more content in a single post.

You will be surprised to see how many people are talking about Bluesky Social. There is breaking news everywhere and fresh content will flood your feed if you follow more influencers, journalists, and artists.

Unlike Twitter with Blue ticks, you won't see any gold or other colored icons on Bluesky. It's quite hard to distinguish the legit users from scammers so verification could still take a long time to improve.

Apparently, while it is similar to the rest of invite-only platforms like Twitter, Dorsey's site is missing advertisements which will save you from a headache.

Commercial brands could be an interesting addition to the platform, but it might strip the fun out of the users who only went to Bluesky to enjoy the new features.

Meanwhile, you can migrate to four social media platforms that are good replacements for Twitter.
