Riot Games recently revealed a cap to how much losses can be mitigated when playing solo queue in League of Legends. A player discovered this news after experiencing an extended period of dealing with away-from-keyboard (AFK) players in their games.
The Impact of AFK Players and the Loss Mitigation System
According to the story by Early Gamer, seeing multiple AFK players within the same week, the player had the game remade each time, in good persistence of trying to win the game and prevent any further losses. Unfortunately, this resulted in the player losing 25 LP in their next game despite the team agreeing to forfeit, as they had reached the loss mitigation cap.
The loss mitigation system is meant to protect solo players from AFK players. When the system detects an AFK player, it'll ask the team to forfeit the game, and they are then automatically put back in the queue without any LP loss.
Riot Implements Loss Mitigation System Limit
As avid League of Legends players, they all faced the prospect of an Away From Keyboard (AFK) teammate. Whether it's connection issues or simply walking away from the computer, it's a frustrating experience to be stuck in a 4v5 situation in ranked.
Riot implemented a loss mitigation system that doesn't count as a real loss to prevent players from losing too much LP in such a situation. However, it appears that Riot has now capped the times loss mitigation can be accepted.
The Negative Effects of Loss Mitigation Cap on Dedicated League of Legends Players
When a player encounters multiple AFK teammates in a row and accepts loss mitigation each time, they now face the prospect of getting a -25 LP without Riot's help.
This loss mitigation cap means that players who play a lot of League of Legends are getting punished for their dedication to the game. Fans can check out the new LoL update in a video uploaded by Early Game on YouTube.
Limiting the Impacts of AFK Teammates with a Loss Mitigation Cap
Since they're more likely to encounter AFK teammates during the week, they're more likely to reach this loss mitigation cap without Riot's help.
The mere idea of a cap on something like loss mitigation seems unnecessary, especially since no player plans for encountering AFK teammates in the first place. While AFK teammates need to be taken care of, putting a cap on loss mitigation sets a precedent for punishing players instead of protecting them.

Riot's Response To Loss Mitigation Queries
A certain player showed screenshots of their interaction with Riot support, showing that there was no loss mitigation. The screenshots were posted by Composites on Twitter, showing Riot support's response to their queries.
Hopefully Riot will take the player's complaint seriously and discuss ways to improve the existing loss mitigation system. The game and the players who dedicate their time to it deserves more than a straight no.
