Elon Musk Aims to Address AI Bias with 'TruthGPT'

ChatGPT may have a rival soon in Elon Musk's "TruthGPT."

Elon Musk, the Chief Twit and owner of SpaceX and Tesla, is looking to expand his businesses in the field of AI and create an alternative to the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT, according to a report by AP.

Musk Claims AI Bias

In an interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Musk claims that ChatGPT shows a liberal bias and that his alternative would be a "maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe."

TruthGPT ultimately aims to address this alleged liberal bias. This rationale is similar to when the billionaire was still planning to buy Twitter claiming that liberal bias on the app comprised freedom of speech.

However, Musk was particularly concerned about the potential threats of AI to humanity. He even considered this growing tech more dangerous than cars or rockets, which are basically in line with his current businesses.

It is worth noting that Musk co-chaired the board of OpenAI, the startup that created ChatGPT, and was an early investor. OpenAI was established in 2015 as a nonprofit AI research center.

But the billionaire was briefly on the board before leaving in early 2018. OpenAI cited Tesla's efforts to develop automated driving systems as the cause of his resignation.

Musk went into further detail about his leaving in 2019, claiming that it was also due to his need to concentrate on engineering issues at Tesla and some disagreements with OpenAI's leaders.

Tesla's AI

Tesla is also incorporating AI into its vehicles. Still, it had met many concerns about its quality, with US safety regulators investigating a fatal crash involving a Tesla allegedly on an automated driving system when it crashed into a firetruck in California.

Regulators are looking into several incidents in which Teslas utilizing the Autopilot technology,y crashed into parked emergency vehicles that were attending to other crashes. The firetruck investigation is just one aspect of that investigation.

Despite these issues, Musk will continue to work on the TruthGPT project. He thinks a politically correct AI will be more prone to make bad decisions than one trying to understand humanity.

Musk has recently introduced a new venture called X.AI Corp and lists himself as its director. His secretary will be his longtime adviser, Jared Birchall.

TruthGPT was announced when concerns were growing about the rise of AI tools. In fact, Musk was one of the many tech leaders who supported an open letter urging AI companies to halt development.
