CD Projekt Red has released a new update for the dystopian open-world role-playing game "Cyberpunk 2077," named Update 1.62, which is available only for PC players, Comicbook reports.
The update brings in a new technology called Path Tracing, which is also known as Full Ray-Tracing, alongside support for NVIDIA DLAA and Intel Xe Super Sampling 1.1.
In addition, the benchmarking system has been improved, displaying more information on the results screen. You can read CD Projekt Red's latest "Cyberpunk 2077" patch notes here.
Path Tracing
The main feature of this update is Path Tracing, a rendering technology that provides more realistic graphics by tracing light rays throughout a scene.
Since this technology is only available on very high-end PCs, it is not available for consoles. The update includes a Ray Tracing: Overdrive preset, which includes Path Tracing technology and can be enabled in the Graphics settings.
Path-traced screenshots can also be rendered in Photo Mode for other Ray-Tracing-capable graphics cards with at least 8GB VRAM.
Real-time path tracing is a breakthrough for the gaming industry, and it is now becoming a reality thanks to technologies such as those from NVIDIA.
The "Cyberpunk 2077" technology preview, unveiled at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco last March, is an excellent example of how far path tracing has progressed in the industry.
DLAA
The game also now includes NVIDIA DLAA, an AI-based anti-aliasing mode designed to improve image quality. DLAA requires an NVIDIA RTX graphics card. It can be enabled in the NVIDIA DLSS section of Settings > Graphics.
Intel XeSS
CD Projekt Red also added support for Intel Xe Super Sampling 1.1, an upscaling technology using machine learning to provide improved performance with high image quality. It can be enabled in Settings > Graphics in the Resolution Scaling section.
Benchmark Improvements
The game now has improved the Benchmark to display more information in the results screen, including PC specs, GPU driver version, and selected settings.
Update Size Unknown
The file size of the new update has not yet been announced, so it is unclear how much space it will require. It is also worth noting that this update includes no new content and only a small number of fixes and changes to the game.
"Cyberpunk 2077" is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. However, this update is only available for PC players due to the hardware requirements of Path Tracing technology.
Reactions from Players
Although some players find the "Cyberpunk 2077" update thrilling, others contend it serves solely as a promotional campaign for hardware companies like Nvidia and Intel. Additionally, players have expressed the need for fresh content to be introduced into the game.
