WhatsApp, the popular Meta-owned instant messaging app, is reportedly working on a new feature enabling users to share their status updates directly to Facebook Stories without ever having to leave the WhatsApp application.
This exciting new feature was recently discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta update for iOS 23.7.0.75 by WaBetaInfo.
Seamless Way to Share Facebook Stories
According to the report, this innovative new feature will change how status updates are shared on Facebook Stories while allowing users complete control over which updates are shared.
The feature will be optional and disabled by default, but users can activate it at their discretion in the status privacy settings. Moreover, users can also disable the feature at any time, allowing them to decide how and when to share their updates.
This new feature will save users time and effort manually sharing their status updates because it will be shared directly as a Facebook Story without exiting WhatsApp. This feature is still in development and will be available in a future app update.
WhatsApp Channels Coming Soon
In addition to this new feature, Mint reports that WhatsApp is reportedly working on a separate and optional tool called "channels" to allow users to receive useful updates from specific people they want to stay in touch with. This feature will be accessible as a separate section within the Status tab called "Updates."
It is important to note that channels on WhatsApp will not reveal the user's phone number or any other personal information. Still, messages received within a channel will not be end-to-end encrypted.
It is worth mentioning that WhatsApp's private messages, both individual and group chats, offer end-to-end encryption, ensuring that only the sender and receiver can read these messages.
This new feature of sharing status updates to Facebook Stories without leaving WhatsApp is a game-changer for WhatsApp users.
Facebook Stories have a vast user base, so this feature will allow WhatsApp users to share their updates with a larger audience easily.
In the future, there may be an option to share status updates to Instagram Stories, given it is also owned by Meta, further increasing the reach and impact of WhatsApp status updates.
More from WhatsApp
Wabetainfo also spotted that WhatsApp beta for Android recently added a useful new feature that allows users to add and edit contacts without leaving the app.
This feature is now available to some beta testers who downloaded the most recent WhatsApp beta version for Android from the Google Play Store.
Previously, the app had a shortcut to add contacts, but it would redirect users to their device's contacts app. Thanks to recent updates, some beta testers can now easily add new contacts or edit their existing information directly within WhatsApp.
This feature enables users to add contacts without switching between apps, which can save a significant amount of time.
