AMD has launched the new Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor with 3D V-Cache to vie with Intel's much-hyped Core i9-13900K. This is AMD's 8-core CPU that boasts of a noteworthy 104MB of combined L2 and L3 cache, more than double than what the 7700X 8-core CPU offers.
Testing the Performance Uplift of AMD's 3D V-Cache on the Ryzen 7 7800X3D
According to the story by Video Cardz, although the early review benchmarks set the 7800X3D slightly behind the Core i9-13900K in synthetic benchmarks such as Cinebench R23, gamers should not fear as AMD's own benchmarks of the 7800X3D have shown that the processor performs with moderate gains in gaming.
The AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is the latest advancement in processor technology from AMD and one of the most intriguing aspects of the processor is its new 3D V-Cache. With 3D V-Cache, AMD has managed to double the L2 and L3 cache size to 104MB, providing a significant advantage in gaming performance.
To test just how much of a difference the 3D V-Cache makes, AMD ran a series of head-to-head benchmarks against the Intel Core i9-13900K. The results of the benchmarks showed that, at 1080p with high settings, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D was able to provide an average gaming performance uplift of 6.9% compared to the Core i9-13900K, as also specified in an article by WCCF Tech.
The Cost of Performance: Analyzing AMD's Ryzen 7 7800X3D Processor
While this isn't an incredible leap forward in performance - and the maximum gain has been up to around 30% - it does offer a noticeable boost for gamers. This uplift could be even greater in games that are optimized for 3D V-Cache, meaning gamers may get a boosted experience depending on the titles they are playing.
Of course with such improvements comes a price: the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is priced at $449, which is a fairly hefty increase from the Ryzen 7 7700X, which is priced at $339, and it may be difficult to justify this premium for most consumers.
AMD has also reported potentially lower performance in synthetic benchmarks when compared to the Intel Core i9-13900K, indicating that this processor might not be ideal for all users, explained further in an article by Tech 4 Gamers.

Comparing the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D to Intel's Core i9-13900K: Gaming Performance
Overall, the 3D V-Cache of the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is showing promise in the early reviews and tests and could help to bridge the gap between AMD and Intel in terms of gaming performance. However, whether this improvement outweighs the premium in cost is something that can only be decided by each individual gamer.
Of course, the 7800X3D does come at quite the cost - its official launch price on April 6th is $449, which is nearly the same as a 32GB DDR5-6000 memory kit. Nevertheless, a comparison of Intel's Core i9-13900K in gaming against AMD's new 7800X3D with its improved cache and larger cores set to offer more than just synthetic benchmark performance reveals that the GPU's performance is highly competitive, despite the high cost.
