Professor Living Underwater for 100 Days Discovers ‘Brand New’ Species

Dr. Deep Sea claims to make a groundbreaking discovery.

The Florida university professor, who is currently living underwater for up to 100 days, claims that he made a groundbreaking discovery during his daring expedition. The former naval officer, known as Dr. Deep Sea these days, says he discovered a "brand new species."

Even before concluding his 100-day underwater experiment, he claims he has already discovered a new mystery underwater.

Professor Living Underwater for 100 Days Discovers 'Brand New' Species

Interesting Engineering says that Joseph Dituri, the South Florida professor living underwater for 100 days, recently disclosed a remarkable discovery during his daring journey.

Dr. Deep Sea says that he has specifically unearthed a "brand new" species after staying underwater for roughly a month or 30 days, to be more exact.

It is worth noting that his daring expedition has yet to conclude. In fact, he still plans to stay there for a total of 100 days. In other words, he is still far away from ending his experiment.

Dutiri spoke with The Independent UK regarding his most recent discovery while living underwater for an extended time. In a video call, the University professor says they have "found a single-cell ciliate, a single-celled organism that we believe is a brand new species to science."

The Florida professor further believes that the single-celled organism has been there for quite a while now. However, previous folks who dived underwater just missed it out.

He told The Independent in the video call interview that "people have dived in this area thousands and thousands of times." But despite that, he thinks that the "new" species he discovered has been there all the while. Previous divers, according to him, "just [did not] look."

'New' Species to Undergo Examination

Although Dutiri claims that the single-celled organism they discovered is a "new species to science," microbiologists have yet to confirm it.

Interesting Engineering notes in its report that the specimen from the 100-day underwater exhibition is now on its way to examination by microbiologists. These scientists still have to confirm if it is actually a new species after all. Once it gets a nod from these experts, the daring experiment of Dr. Deep Sea would create a remarkable milestone in the world of sciences.

Why is Dr. Deep Sea Living Underwater for 100 Days?

Even though the Florida professor has been underwater for a couple of weeks already, he says he still "feels wonderful."

Besides his recent discovery, he is living underwater for an extended time to prove the hypothesis he had in the beginning.

He believes that the increased pressure underwater will make us superhumans. Dutiri is experimenting to learn the health benefits of staying underwater for an extended period of time, specifically up to 100 days.
