Uber has announced that it will add 14 new markets to its Comfort Electric program, as reported by Engadget.
The Comfort Electric Program will allow customers to hail electric vehicles, such as the Tesla Model 3, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Polestar 2.
A Step To Eliminate Gas-Powered Vehicles
The announcement is another step for the company to get rid of gas-powered vehicles completely. Starting today, the Comfort Electric program will be available to:
- Detroit
- Indianapolis
- Jacksonville
- Minneapolis/St. Paul
- Montreal
- Nashville
- New Orleans
- Orlando
- Palm Springs
- Phoenix
- Pittsburgh
- Salt Lake City
- Tampa Bay
- Toronto
The Comfort Electric program rolled out in May 2022 in California and, since then, has expanded to 25 US markets in September 2022.
The program is different from Uber Green. Uber also offers e-bikes and e-scooters in partnership with Lime for customers who can skip cars.
Uber will spend $800 million to help drivers transition to EVs. In fact, the ride-sharing company has partnered with Hertz to supply EVs; at the same time, offering Zero Emissions incentives for a limited time that will let EV drivers earn an extra dollar on every trip.
Other perks include $100 off a Wallbox EV charger and another $100 off installation. The company also aims to cut its carbon emissions in half by 2025 and hit zero emissions globally by 2040.
Even though Comfort Electric rides are costlier compared to your standard UberX, Uber is offering 25 percent off two rides. All you need to do is use the code "GOELECTRIC" from April 11th through the 30th.

The Comfort Electric Program
Uber's Comfort Electric program is a new initiative aimed at promoting the use of electric vehicles (EVs) among Uber drivers. The program is currently available in select cities across the United States, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle.
Under the Comfort Electric program, Uber drivers can access discounted rentals and purchase options for EVs, as well as incentives for using EVs on trips. The program also includes access to charging infrastructure, training and support for drivers, and other perks.
The program is part of Uber's larger effort to reduce its carbon footprint and promote sustainability. According to the company, the Comfort Electric program has the potential to reduce emissions by over 100,000 metric tons of CO2 per year, which is equivalent to taking 21,500 cars off the road.
In addition to reducing emissions, the Comfort Electric program is also designed to reduce costs for drivers. EVs are generally cheaper to operate and maintain than traditional gas-powered vehicles, which can help drivers save money on fuel and maintenance costs.
Overall, the Comfort Electric program is a promising initiative that could help to promote the adoption of EVs among Uber drivers and reduce emissions in the transportation sector. While the program is still in its early stages, it has the potential to make a significant impact on the environment and the economy.
