Amazon, one of the largest e-commerce platforms nowadays, has started flagging "frequently returned" products, giving its customers a warning before they checkout an item.
The new feature seeks to give Amazon buyers a guide on which items usually get returned by its users. It should further prevent customers from ending up returning the product as well.
Amazon 'Frequently Returned' Products
Online shopping has exploded since the COVID-19 pandemic occurred in 2020. And since then, more folks are now buying their stuff - from tech gadgets to mere accessories - through e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Best Buy.
However, purchasing things from the internet comes with some limitations, primarily preventing buyers from checking out the products in person before checking them out.
With that, these online shopping services provide extensive information on their products, including reviews from previous buyers. But it seems that these are not enough. Some items still end up being returned by customers over and over again.
According to The Verge, Amazon currently allows customers to return new and unused items bought from the online retailer for up to 30 days or nearly a month. In most cases, doing so is free of charge.
Meanwhile, Engadget notes in its report that the returns on e-commerce platforms have massively grown during the pandemic. And until now, in the post-pandemic days, its figures have yet to dwindle to pre-COVID numbers.
Given that, Amazon has begun trying out a new badge for its products. It now flags items that sport a high return rate from its users.
It now provides a warning that states if a product is a "frequently returned item."
The notice further asks customers to "check the product details and customer reviews to learn more about this item."
Below the notice, the giant online retailer is giving users an option to "Report incorrect product information." It should help the e-commerce platform fix any deception or mere blunder.
Why is Amazon Flagging 'Frequently Returned' Listings?
The giant retailer explained why it has decided to create a new tagging system, which lets its customers know if an item has been returned by its users a couple of times already.
The e-commerce platform says that its users may now see the return rate information of some of the products listed on the platform.
The spokesperson of Amazon, Betsy Harden, confirmed to The Information that they are "currently showing return rate information on some product detail pages."
The Amazon spokesperson further explained why they started doing so. Harden notes that it seeks to "help our customers make more informed purchase decisions."
Although the new feature might hurt the sales of some products, the transparency could potentially help Amazon buyers avoid items with a high return rate.
