The San Fransisco-based computer company announced its new gaming laptop called the "Framework Laptop 16," and it is meant to be the "platform of possibilities" claims the company. It is a highly-customizable device that will allow gamers and owners to change its keyboards to add the highly-debated numpad on gaming laptops, as well as an upgradeable GPU.
This gaming laptop brings the power of customization and modification right into a user's hands, with the many tweaks available on the PC, as well as repairability for their needs.
Framework Laptop 16 is a Customizable Gaming Laptop
In the recent press release of Framework, the latest customizable gaming laptop is here, with the Framework Laptop 16 that delivers a promising set of features for its users. There are two module ecosystems available on the Laptop 16, with the Input Module system and the Expansion Bay system that will allow modifications that will fit one's needs.
Despite the highly modifiable features of the Laptop 16, its base version, the one which Framework will make available, is already considerable based on its technical specifications.
Framework claims that this PC is the right fit for creators, developers, and gamers with its open-source module systems that bring modifications right into the user's hands. Pre-orders will open by Spring 2023 and shipments would arrive by late this year.
DIY Modify or Repair Framework's Laptop 16
The two new modules on the Framework Laptop 16 are open source, with the company sharing CAD drawings, electrical references, and other information that a developer needs.
It is available for the Input Module which mainly centers on three swappable keyboards that feature the numpad, no numpad, and large keyboard specs, as well as the Expansion Bay for upgrading the computer's GPUs based on the computing power they need.
There is also a provided QMK-based Firmware for the company's integrated Raspberry Pi RP2040-powered Input Modules
Framework's Contributions to Tech
One of the most famous features of Framework's laptop is the DIY repairability available for everyone, where the public can do as much as everything to fix their computers to their heart's content. The company also promised an environmental-friendly build with its computers, the latest processors from Intel, and now AMD, and as much as 4TB of storage.
There are many companies already delivering gaming laptops in the past, and they center on limited customization for only their SSDs or RAM cards. Companies like ASUS ROG, Acer, Lenovo, Alienware, and more have already brought significant power to portable computers and massive experiences for all but do not bring a highly modifiable PC.
Framework wants to change the industry with its developments and products, one that would give the users the power and choice on what to do with their computers. The new gaming laptop, Framework Laptop 16, already features a significant development in computing power, but its customizable parts and hardware take it up a notch for gamers.
