In another series of layoffs in the Big Tech, Amazon is once again announcing a significant number of employees to lose their tenure at the company, with 9,000 more employees to be booted out. This follows its recent announcement of a layoff in the past months, and the numbers are still significant, with thousands losing their jobs.
The news comes directly from its top executive, Andy Jassy, the Amazon CEO claimed that this is part of the company's "operating plan," and that this layoff will take place in the next few weeks.
Amazon Layoffs 9,000 More Employees this Year
According to an update from Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, 9,000 more employees are losing their jobs over the next few weeks, adding to the company's earlier more than 18,000 layoffs.
Android Central notes that this is another round of layoffs that took place this year.
Jassy claimed that it would mostly center on Amazon People Experience and Technology (PTX), AWS, Advertising, and Twitch. This will take place over the coming weeks, with employees getting the news from their superiors and will start talking arrangements for their separation.

Why is Amazon Shedding its Workforce
According to Jassy, this is because of the economy and the significant number of employees on a team.
"For several years leading up to this one, most of our businesses added a significant amount of headcount. This made sense given what was happening in our businesses and the economy as a whole. However, given the uncertain economy in which we reside, and the uncertainty that exists in the near future, we have chosen to be more streamlined in our costs and headcount," says the CEO.
The company wants a more streamlined workforce that would center on a "leaner" count, but take on the tasks in their respective divisions of the Big Tech company.
Amazon's Employment
Since the time of Jeff Bezos as the Amazon CEO, there have been several layoffs in the company, and considering that there are many unions present particularly for its warehouse, this has been notorious for the company. Over the past year, there were many news regarding the company laying off employees, and this is a part of Big Tech's move to bounce back on the industry.
The start of 2023 was also not good for Amazon, as it announced its biggest layoff for this year, with more than 17,000 employees, including its corporate workforce, seeing termination from their posts.
The company promised that it would still assist these workers who have been laid off, providing them with a severance package and other forms of help from the company, only that they would not be able to keep their jobs.
Amazon's significant layoffs started last year, and despite the massive removal of its staff over the past months, the horrors of losing their jobs at the company are not yet over, with this latest announcement. The additional 9,000 may only be half of what Amazon removed earlier this January, but it is still thousands of workers who will no longer continue their livelihood and work with the company.
