Axiom Space recently announced its upcoming mission towards the International Space Station that would center on a private launch coming in the last quarter of the year. Under the NASA and Axiom partnership, this will open up the commercial space market more to individuals looking to venture toward space and reach their dreams of getting what is beyond the sky.
The Axiom-3 will center on looking for interested individuals, alongside its preparation for the spacecraft that would bring people toward the orbiting space station.
Axiom-3 Mission is a Go Towards the International Space Station
NASA released a statement detailing that Axiom Space is selected for a launch soon, with it being the company's third private space mission toward orbit. The task would occur from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, making the mission order official as both entities recently signed the necessary documents.
"The diversity of currently available commercial orbital human spaceflight opportunities is truly astounding. NASA's commercial crew flights to the space station for our government astronauts paved the way for fully private missions to space like Inspiration4 and Polaris as well as private astronaut missions to the orbiting laboratory like the one we are announcing today," Phil McAlister, director of commercial space at NASA Headquarters said.
NASA, Axiom to Bring Four Individuals to Space in November
Axiom Space's Axiom-3, a.k.a. Ax-3, will bring four individuals to venture towards the International Space Station to experience the orbit and will remain docked in the station for 14 days, as per the release.
The launch would take place no earlier than November, and the company is now selecting the entities that would collaborate with them on the upcoming spaceflight.
Axiom Space's Expanding Space Missions
The famous private space company, Axiom Space, is one of the most iconic entities in the present, with its growing popularity and reach in the industry, one that NASA supports. The space company first debuted its private launch toward the space station back in 2022, where it received the go signal from NASA for its mission.
Since then, the space company has held two private space launches that brought commercial entities and individuals to orbit alongside NASA astronauts.
There are more plans from Axiom to bring more experiences to the ISS, including a movie studio set for 2024 and a sports arena for the onboard astronauts to use.
Axiom Space may not be as massive as SpaceX, but the private company aims to bring more innovations, including the Moonwalker suit for the Artemis mission, to the world. Now, Axiom-3 has already got its green light from NASA to take place in 2023, bringing the entire space industry up to speed for its private mission later this year.
